What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?
Almost finished with the block wall. Scraped the stucco on a short section of wall (previous construction, not by me) where raccoons used to shinny up to get in the neighbor's Italian cypress. Those trees are gone, so the raccoons have moved on. Applied a scratch coat and will finish it tomorrow. Took a bunch of crap off the front porch and put it in storage. The place is starting to resemble something other than Sanford & Son's place.

I somehow managed to throw my back out at Half-Price Books and it made it awkward to breathe. It still kind of hurts, but not as bad as it did two hours ago. I wasn't lifting anything or in an awkward position, but, all of a sudden, it's like somewhere in my thoracic spine, a vertebra (possibly between T7 and T9) decided it wanted to go out of shape and hit my right lung.

Were you 28 when it happened to you?

I actually got in a very bad car accident when I was 21 which has resulted in 7 herniated discs and a loss of 3 inches in height. And other problems.

Huh. The worst car accident I've been in, I think I had a leg that got bruised and hurt for about an hour. I was driving behind a car and didn't brake fast enough when it stopped. Car (a 15-year-old Saturn) was a total loss.

Reading Victor Reppert's defense of the argument from reason in The Blackwell Companion To Natural Theology. He has three main points, the first of which is the old, "but neurons can't be 'about' something" which Neo frequently uses to great effect.

Some guy going twice the speed limit slammed into my right front quarter panel at an intersection, spinning me to face the direction he was going. That momentum caused me to shear off the fender of a jeep, after which I went up on a curb and went down an embankment into a ravine. Needless to say, my seat belt broke in that accident and I busted out two windows with my head and nearly went through the windshield. I'm actually lucky to be alive.

The cops said the guy that caused the accident was going 60 in a 30, based on the tire marks on the road. I was in traction therapy for 7 months.

If we can somehow manage to turn a bunch of ones and zeros into this:

And still manage to get Bryan Cranston to fit in my iPad, there's no reason the "neurons can't be 'about' something" argument still has any reason to exist.

Got underneath the front porch and found that one of the four teleposts had fallen over, but its partner on the other end of the beam was okay. Put the wayward post back in place on its concrete slab and tightened it up. Will probably check the posts again in the autumn to make sure everything's okay before winter set in. They aren't the porch's main means of support, but they definitely make it feel more solid to walk on.

And then I did a whole bunch of weeding in the front yard, because it wasn't too sunny or hot today.

After a nap and a trip to add some $$ to my bus pass, I sat on the front steps with one of my clarinets and worked through about three-quarters of the song list for this Wednesday's rehearsal.
