A little over two weeks ago, I ordered a first edition of Philip Roth’s “The Breast.” It finally arrived today. And, ironically, It was sweltering enough that Dad didn’t bother to check the mail until about 6:30.

Reading the forums, and relaxing. I’m on vacation this week, so went to Starbucks this morning, ran errands and did a little shopping. Did some yoga too. I don’t miss work at all.

Also, something that happened at the store where I work: we have two vintage arcade machines. A pinball machine we've never been able to get to work properly, and a vintage Super Pacman machine we've modified to play about 60 other games.
Today, someone who bore a remarkable resemblance to Philip Seymour Hoffman came by and inquired about buying the machines. The boss was making a call, so he couldn't respond at the time. I mentioned the details to him, and he seemed to be a bit more open to the prospect of selling the machines than I had expected. He also got the idea of trying to make his own arcade machine similar to the one we already have. I sent him instructions for how to make one, and I can only assume he's working on plans now. I suppose it'd be nice to have instructions that work for the modified arcade machine. And maybe, just to mess with people, put a big "Polybius" label on it.

Vacation is winding down. Mostly packed and have checked in for the flight home tomorrow.
Went on an all-day geology/paleontology/SF fandom romp to Buffalo Jump and then Drumheller, Alberta.
- Saw the K-Pg boundary (a.k.a. the K-T boundary) and both amazed myself and scared myself silly making my way down to the viewing area and then back up the steep slope. My right knee is a tad annoyed with me at the moment.
- Next we went to the Royal Tyrrell Museum and looked at a lot of dinosaur skeletons.
- Finished up at a place called TrekCetera, where for some reason I fell in love with the Thunderbirds display. (Anyone remember Parker, Lady Penelope's chauffeur?) Tons of original costumes and props, and our tour guide was great.
I just came back from supper and am giving the noms a couple of hours' head start before I wander off to bed. It's been fun, but I will be *so* glad to go home.

Took my son back to his mom's this evening. He had been distracted from his grief, and it started coming out again on the drive, it wasn't a breakdown like yesterday. I saw my ex-wife's face and I could read it on her as well. I'm very somber for them.

I just finished my work and I'm waiting for a bus ... and I'm thinking about what was at work today ... did I do everything right or didn't break something ... 
today I started working with a new GEM foils for my detector ...really new because nobody in the world has ever worked with such foils... and I have only one foil per frame and I can't screw up any of them... it's terribly stressful ...

Safely home in Winnipeg. Travel expenses tallied and recorded, receipts and assorted papers shredded, travelling clothes in washing machine (with extra rinse to erase the scented laundry soap from the hostel), first cup of tea brewed and consumed. Just about to download the photos onto my home computer for editing.
