Suffering succotash! Literally! Lunch from Meals-On-Wheels today was turkey and mashed taters with gravy, which I like, with a heaping helping of succotash. The company that does Meals-On-Wheels went from using donated space to prepare the meals to buying their own place last year. Since then, we've seen all sorts of cost cutting measures like smaller portions, cheaper ingredients, and less expensive main courses. Still a very valuable service. That extra four meals a week helps extend my food budget considerably, and it's a welcome source of variety.

Last night, the basement at home flooded. Dad and I managed to stop it before it got too bad. But that only means we still had a lot of hauling to do. I spent a lot of this morning hauling several Hefty bags' worth of unsalvageables into the trash bin. In the afternoon, Dad and I bought some extra fans and disinfectants and hauled the floor rugs we bought after we had to strip the carpet off during the last flood. Now all that's left is some isolated items and water puddles. I'm still trying to regain my ability to breathe. I was disoriented all day until about two hours ago from all the work.

After the last flood, the outer walls were sealed. However, we have a little storm drain where, if something breaks in the walls or if a pipe breaks, it can just drain into the hole. This time around, however, it overflowed into the basement from there. That said, once the rain stopped, we opened it up and the water started to flow back into there, just like intended.

Ahh okay. I used to have a sump pump in my basement. If water got in the basement, the sump pump would automatically come on and pump out the water.

Finally relaxing after a long day. I'm working from home now, but somehow, the day is longer, because emails keep coming because people know you're working from home. Grrr.
