Back before I retired, I answered emails at all hours, to a point. If I woke up at 3 AM and knew I couldn't go back to sleep (a common occurrence) I'd just get up and answer emails and even do some mechanical design work. Those designs got reviewed by me again, when I was fully caffeinated, at work later in the day. It got to where people expected me to answer at any given time, and would page me. I just turned the pager off, hit lock screen, and walked away. Fuggem.

Reading a "special weather statement" for my area.

After the last flood, the outer walls were sealed. However, we have a little storm drain where, if something breaks in the walls or if a pipe breaks, it can just drain into the hole. This time around, however, it overflowed into the basement from there. That said, once the rain stopped, we opened it up and the water started to flow back into there, just like intended.
Sump pump option?

So, I just got in trouble at work because one of the interns was smoking out the back of the building!
I mean,I DID set him alight...
But still!

We don't have one, our home is old enough that it wasn't built in, and Skokie's sewer system isn't particularly amenable to sump pumps. Dad's looking into it, but he's not sure it's actually too cost-effective.

Okay, this happens very rarely for me...
Guys.
I would like to offer my sincere and earnest apologies for a comment I made yesterday.
Earlier in this thread I gave the impression there is such a thing as a “spare, disposable” Aussie.
This is entirely not true. Every Aussie on the planet is needed and valued!
They all have an important contribution to make to society, humanity, and the planet as a whole.
Of course Iggy’s contribution to all this may be to stretch the limits of our tolerance, or perhaps be used as a speed bump, but he still has a contribution to make.
🤪

Got tired of waiting for it to rain, so I dragged the garden hose out of its hiding place in the garage and gave all the garden plants a good drenching.
Also decided to use up a few ingredients in the pantry, specifically some rye flour and an older packet of yeast, and attempted a batch of English muffins. They seem to be edible, although I had to bake them a bit longer than called for in the recipe.

Hearing that Stabbing Westward is back together in some form and that Christopher Hall's emo industrial punk... thing, The Dreaming, is finally over.
Yay!
Stabbing Westward was one of the few things that kept me sane through high school and early college. Three solid albums (we won't talk about the 4th/self-titled album), a bunch of memories.
...yeah, I used to watch "The Crow" a lot back then, too.
But, seriously, as though being a hormonal teenager wasn't bad enough, put living with a permanent physical disability and learning your father (who was a verbally/mentally abusive asshole anyway) was a child molester on top of it. Angst doesn't begin to cover it. One of my few escapes was this music, because it was at least as pissed off and sad as me.
So, yeah, they've been touring off and on for the last year or so, likely testing the waters. If they make new music, it'll be a huge deal to me.
Fun fact: the guitarist SW had for the album 'Ungod' left and joined Filter. The riff for "Hey, Man, Nice Shot?" It was actually written and performed first for the song "Ungod."

The only thing I remember about stabbing westward is they did that theme for duke nukem on the PlayStation 1.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
