Making Hamburger Helper. Cheeseburger something or other. I seem to recall Hamburger Helper being more tomatoey and not so cheesy, but it's all cheese based recipes now.

Waiting for the King to get back from the coast for the weekend. He's about an hour away or less. The four-legged babies are going to go nuts.

When I visited him there last weekend I went to one of his jobsites near New Bern, NC. The owner showed me the waterline on the outside of the townhouse. It was eye level to me. I am 5'4"

I just can't even imagine.

The amount of stuff out at the roads is sombering. People's whole lives are piled out there. And broken glass.....just.....everywhere. We've been looking online for another place for him to rent and the searches keep coming up with places for sale too. Places where they started to make repairs and then just said fuck it and walked away. Places where they haven't bothered to make repairs and said fuck it and walked away. Places where a trained eye like ours can see that they just covered up mold and worse, with cheap repairs and walked away. Places where I look at the property tax value history and Zillow and see that the asking price is a small fraction of what the house was worth a year ago. Entire communities just washed over. Blue tarps on roof after roof after roof. SO.MANY.FORECLOSURES. If we were younger.... But we just can't start over like that. This old monster we're in now was on the verge of being condemned when we bought it in our twenties in 1987. It's still not totally finished being restored. It's hard to be in the business and then come home and do more restoration here. And I'm tired of not being able to choose my materials, nearly always using leftovers or whatever we tore out from other houses where they upgraded. And then I look at what they are facing and recognize how lucky we are.

I finally told my daughter's dad that I'm not keen on him coming over to my home to see her. Somehow he got the idea that he doesn't have to take her out anywhere or even to his own home while he's visiting her. So he just comes over and hangs out for hours, sometimes 2-3 evenings or more a week, doing mostly nothing - playing with his cell phone or snoozing on the sofa. We haven't been together in a relationship since she was 6 months old. The conversation didn't go well, he got mad asking "why now" and making it seem like I want to keep him from seeing her. Ugh.

Got back from the monthly Astronomy Society meeting about an hour ago.  Attempted to organize a herd of cats the characters from all the novels I'm working on (an Excel spreadsheet was involved).  Loaded snow tires into my car, as I'm getting them put on tomorrow morning.  Kicking back with a liqueur glass of Green Chartreuse.
