My computer has a habit of freezing up every day or so, for reasons I haven't determined, and likely never will. It's not a big deal. I just hold the power button down to cut the power and restart the machine. It's an annoyance, but a very minor one. So I was not surprised this morning when it froze again. However, this time, things were not so simple. The Windows logo that precedes the login screen appeared, but it simply hung at a black screen. Investigating, it reported that a needed device was unavailable. So I went into BIOS and found that the boot drive was not selected as the boot device for some reason. So I restart the machine, it displays the logo screen and then nothing. So, a bit alarmed at this point, I fetch my netbook to start building repair tools to use in rescuing the machine. I plop it down on the desk and go to fetch a cup of coffee, and as I'm pouring the coffee, I hear the Windows startup theme playing in the other room. It was music to my ears.

Possibletarian and I were discussing how I didn't backup my system, and how he did because he didn't want to face the task of having to reinstall Windows and all his applications. I'm thinking now that he may have had a point. At the very least I'm going to mirror the folder with all the application install files to the cloud. Later I will look at setting up regular backups. I have all the tools I need, I've just been negligent.

Incidentally, when Windows restarted, one of the first things that came up and launched was the Amazon Music Unlimited client, displaying a single song, Kenny Wayne Shepherd's "Everything Is Broken." Very fitting, I thought.

Received an email from a local grocer that a digital coupon for a free bottle of Hellman's ketchup was available. A quick call to customer service confirmed that these coupons aren't linked to my store discount card. So I pull up the AppStore on my Fire tablet only to find their app isn't supported by Amazon's app store. So I check my phone. Not compatible. (Thanks Obama! My Obamaphone is next to useless for these things, or anything at all.) So I check my old tablet. Again, not compatible. So I look into sideloading the app manually, which I did and that worked fine. I have now sideloaded my first app. In doing so, I discovered the difficulty is getting the app install file without going through a lot of bullshit that spammers only interested in scamming you want to make you go through in order to download the app install file. I would have much rather just sideloaded the Google Play Store and loaded non-Amazon apps that way, but that hasn't panned out so far. In the meantime, this will work. Thumbs up!

On Episode 17 of Attack on Titan. While the show remains amazing, one glaring problem has started to appear: why the fuck did they replace the opening theme with Nightwish covering “O Canada?”





I haven’t been this pissed at a show changing their theme song since Ballykissangel rearranged that theme for Series Six, but at least AoT still remains interesting.

Amazon finally delivered my Instant Pot that I bought as a Christmas present for my sister and brother-in-law! Woohoo! It's been a pain in the tuckus getting to this point, but having reached it, I am quite satisfied. I still have the two earlier Instant Pots that I bought from Target to return, but hopefully that will be an easier process. (Knock wood.) I'm glad now. I would have been happy to give them the Instant Pot from Target, but the one from Amazon is a much nicer model, and I think they'll like that better.
