It's 19° F outside here. I just got back from running errands, but I was so over dressed that I was dripping with sweat by the time I got to Target.

But other than that, things went well. Visited Target and a dollar store to pick up a set of flannel pj's for my sister, coffee, and gift wrapping supplies. I haven't kept track because there have been a lot of little purchases, but I figure that I spent as much on stocking stuffers, gift cards, and wrapping supplies as I did on the main gifts I bought people. I think I did all right. I planned for $400 with $100 cushion. I think I used up both, but that's fine as I had it in reserve. Next year I'll have to start saving in January to have money for Christmas.

I received one of several shipments from Walmart today, featuring a shiny, new, red teapot and a bunch of tins of canned fish. I'm stocking up to save on shipping, but I might have overdone it. I've got 30 tins of canned fish in the cupboard with four more on the way. The only thing I lack is a jar of pickled herring, and that mainly because the stores I usually shop at don't carry a good brand. So I'll make a trip out of my way sometime in the next month to remedy that lack.

Relaxing before I move on to the rest of my day, and listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan on the Amazon music service.

It's about 48º F where I'm at. We had a few days that went to 115º F last summer.

I'm not sure where to post this but I'm on the verge of freaking out.

Just got a call from my brother. To make a long story short, my little sister and her baby son have been in and out of friends' homes and is now staying at my parent's house. She got in a fight with our mom (for reasons I'll never understand, she seems bent on copping an attitude towards our mom and acting like the consequences of her actions aren't her fault) before storming upstairs threatening to pack her things. A few minutes later she began screaming. My mom ran upstairs and found her grandson unresponsive and my sister screaming he wasn't breathing. My mom immediately started CPR, saving his life.

She went with him to the hospital. The police are talking with my sister. I don't know anything else. I don't even know what hospital.

I can't help but jump to horrible conclusions. Fucking hell this is my family! My little sister! My little nephew!

Found myself listening to The Grass Roots' "Let's Live For Today." And I have just come to the conclusion that it's, without a doubt, the gayest top 10 hit of 1967. I don't mean this in any sort of derogatory sense. Just listen to it (specifically the original cut that Dunhill Records ended up replacing with a milder version you probably remember).





... Yeah, there's no way Rob Grill was supposed to be singing it to a woman. Unless that woman's fingers are really long and can go really deep inside him. Still, I suppose it's pretty progressive to have such a song hit the Top 10 pre-Stonewall.
