I just finished hand lapping the rings on a nice CZ 455 I picked up on Sunday.

There's your new hobby Boru! Plenty of skill involved in hand lapping! (whatever that means!)

Lapping is quite simply rubbing two surfaces together with an abrasive compound between them in order to make them smooth and flat. Or in my case round. There are two reasons to do this with scope rings. The first is to smooth the interior surface of the rings. This both keeps them from marring the surface of your scope and provides for increased contact area. The second is to line the rings up. When you install a set of rings they probably aren't going to be perfectly in line with each other due to tolerances in the manufacturing process of both the rings and the receiver. Lapping the rings with a straight round bar lines the interior surfaces of the rings up with each other. That's what the two pointy bars in the rings are for. when the points line up the rings are in line.

So yes, if Boru is going to do metalworking there my be some lapping in his future. And yes, I'm

At work, thinking of leaving this place for another facility. The shortage of staff lately, especially when the place is too cheap to call agency, is becoming burdensome. Well, it’s mostly as expected. Apart from the fact that I spent most of the time I tried to spend sleeping trying to get to sleep. Was in a combination of pain and drowsiness for most of the recovery period. About one, felt lucid enough to watch Two-Lane Blacktop with my Dad. Now we’re awaiting answers on another unexpected side effect: I’m noticing some blood in my left eye. Not bloodshot, I mean, I wipe my eyes and there’s blood stains on the Kleenex (less than There have been, fortunately, but still.) We called the doctor and we’re still awaiting answers on how bad a sign this is. Fuck me, I wanted to post a quote from The Darjeeling limited to make light of the whole affair, and now I’m reminding myself of Le Chiffre.
