Every single time we all get together she asks me if I will go to church with her (insert day) I nicely tell her no. She asks why as if I'm telling her my views for the first time. Tonight she asked again and went through the same exchange but this time I said, I don't need to explain my views anymore. I respect you just respect me bla bla...

She then texted me after I got home that she "doesn't know me anymore and to not contact her."
Wow. Just wow.

I didn't reply. I have had more friends who are atheists, all my life, even when I was "religious." I never treated them like this. Wtf?

Can't say I'm not hurt. Sad I find it funny that people who follow religion are some of the most unkind on the planet.
Remember, indoctrination is fragile and can be threatened by simply being exposed to people with other ideas. As a result, it's not uncommon for Christians to refuse to be around anybody but other Christians. I've seen a lot of this in Alabama, especially since I was homeschooled.

I know what you mean about the cruelty that Christians can show others. The worst reaction I've ever had when I came out to someone came from a devout Christian that used to be my best friend, the love of my life, and a moderate liberal Christian. She said she couldn't support me and didn't want me to be happy, but instead "pure before God." I was stunned and I don't think I said anything to her after that, and after I had time to think about it I was like, "Fuck that," and I cut off contact with her completely. I don't think anyone else has ever been able to break my heart as completely as she did that day.
I'm so sorry. Sad You are very brave, you know? I admire your courage, and the courage also to let go of a fake friendship. You didn't think it was fake, though. I can't imagine your hurt, but I'm comforted by your story. Thank you for this. ***hugs***

See, this is the kind of thing I think of when people ask theists "would you kill someone if god asked you to." I think the more important question is "what are you willing to do if you think god wants you to do it?" I bet your friend thinks that ending a friendship over your unwillingness to be dragged into church is "for the best" or that it's the best way to 'help' you. Hurting your feelings and withdrawing her friendship is "for your own good." And so on.

This is how religion poisons things every day. Not by convincing a disturbed person that murder is okay, But by convincing otherwise normal people that what your friend did is the right thing to do.
So insightful. You are so right. I'm hurting today over this, but, I'll get on with life. What is most painful, is wondering if we ever had the friendship I thought we did. That's what sucks. Sad

Thx for the support.

Very nice, sir. Nice to see another homebrew aficionado here. Which reminds me - I still have a barrel of apple wine on tap. Think I'll have a pint.

I'm getting ready to head off to a cask ale tasting event.

Feeling sick. I was horrid yesterday. Can't seem to get interested in anything. Reading is a chore. It all makes no sense. I just feel very odd.

Watching final of Pitt/Notre Dame basketball game. 65-65 with 6.1 left.

The weather is looking lots better even though it isn't supposed to quite yet.

The only American sport I can watch is NFL.

I love ice hockey though. But that's Canadian.

The Canadiens are a guilty pleasure for me.

Nice - what sort of system / process do you use? I've got Blichmann rig set up for 10 gallon batches.

I'm really only into soccer. That said, I will follow American soccer (MLS/Seattle Sounders) before European (EPL/Man City)
