What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?
Until yesterday, I had forgotten how much I love Xmas fruit mince pies. Bought a pack of six. Had the last two for morning tea this morning

Each year, I hold a private competition to discover who makes the best pies.. Last year the winner was Aldi.

Don't know if you have these in the US because it's very much an English tradition. They're expensive and a pain in the arse to make. Each year a bloke I know has "'mince pie day" in mid December. About a dozen people turn up. Everyone brings food and champagne and then sit around huge table and make the pies. Everyone gets to take home dozen or so.

If you've never tried them I recommend getting a packet from ALDI. I guess Wallmart might have them, but the Aldi ones we get here are terrific.
Here a packet of six is $5-6, They're quite small.

"A mince pie (also mincemeat pie in New England, and fruit mince pie in Australia and New Zealand) is a sweet pie of English origin, filled with a mixture of dried fruits and spices called "mincemeat", that is traditionally served during the Christmas season in much of the English-speaking world. Its ingredients are traceable to the 13th century, when returning European crusaders brought with them Middle Eastern recipes containing meats, fruits, and spices; these contained the Christian symbolism of representing the gifts delivered to Jesus by the Biblical Magi.[1] Mince pies, at Christmastide, were traditionally shaped in an oblong shape, to resemble a manger and were often topped with a depiction of the Christ Child.[1]"

We give fruit cakes here. In my family it's mostly a joke and we try to find the worst ones.

Maybe mincemeat has improved since I was young, but I despised that substance as a kid, and I was hungry enough that I'd eat a lot of things anyway.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

I can't remember eating them as child. My palate was very different then.  Still some things I have never eaten; EG  lambs brains, tripe, raw oysters, snails  .Not fond of kidney or liver either.  We never ate offal. Dad wouldn't allow it. Nor minced meat.

I've eaten kidney and liver, kidney as a youth, and liver up until a couple of decades ago. The taste is just awful. Brains might be alright, hard to say. I've eaten tripe, but it was pickled, and I don't eat even pickles. Raw oysters, and snails in any form will never reach my gullet.

Just received one of those 'to the householder' letters about Covid19, They are advising a booster shot is necessary at 6 months. I had my second shot of AstraZeneca in July. This is great, gives me time make a booking.

Only last week I received another letter, addressed to me. I'm due for my Poo Test to screen me for bowel cancer. I'll receive the fun collection kit some time in the next 6 weeks. It's every two years and is free at least for older Aussies.

Trivia.US toilet bowls fill much closer to the top than Aussie bowls. Ours have a small pool at the bottom.

Addendum: Just had a thought. That must be a barrel of laughs in Aged Care Facilities, especially with demented inmates.

^ just got mine in the mail today also. (Qld)
I had my second about 3 months ago (Pfizer). I'll go another Pfizer in a few months.

I watched a tube about using the mixed jabs. The triple Pfizer held its own. Plus I don't need to panic over blood clots, knowing my luck.
No God, No fear.

Tripe is common in pho, and I love pho. Never had mincemeat anything. This not being England, I doubt my Aldi's carries it.

We're having pest control come through the building tomorrow. They're requiring two feet clear from the walls with heaters, so prepping for that is today's onerous task.

Nico (dog) had toe amputation about 2 months ago and was still limping. This morning the vet examined him and found that excessive scar tissue had grown and hardened into basically a corn. Back into surgery tomorrow. We've been dealing with this for around 7 or 8 months. Hopefully this will bring it to an end.

Oh no! I hope they can get him all fixed up.
