What's everyone up to right now?

It was pretty good. We met at a local coffee shop and sat around chatting and drinking coffee for a couple of hours.

I learned; One bloke who's just about deaf was a welter weight boxer. He told me he had 45 fights and won most.

Another bloke had a pilot's licence . Flying mainly Cesna's and Piper Cherokee. Fascinating stuff.

The "just about deaf" guy got that way from all those punch-ups, and getting hit on the ears. I'll be getting fitted for hearing aids soon because of damage incurred during the time I spent in the engine rooms of Navy ships with no hearing protection.

Just got back from a choir concert at my oldest granddaughter's high school. I like Christmas music...classic stuff anyway...but when the arrangement is so goofy that I can barely recognize the song, I quickly lose interest. Added to that there was narration (sort of a version of 'A Christmas Carol') between each song to allow for one group of kids to move off the stage and another to move onto the stage. It would appear that the requirement for being in the choir is the willingness to be in choir because I am pretty sure there were more kids than in my graduating class.

Yeegads...in another month Winter Guard starts which is a whole other kind of torture to endure.

Added to that, whatever cologne someone was wearing nearly closed up first my throat then my sinuses...the things I do for that kid, I swear.

Yeah that's what I thought, but was too polite to mention it or indeed my attitude to boxing generally . IE it ain't a sport.

I had one fight in the army. I was knocked cold. (But I broke two of his ribs)  Blush

Long story, but I got in a bar fight when I was in the Navy, celebrating making E-5. People got hurt. I got court-martialed, even though I didn't start it. Shit happens. I got a bruise on my right cheek. E-5 for 10 days.  Hilarious

I took the tests so my ex could make E-5. There wasn't Internet access so it was through courses by mail. He was too lazy to do it and we needed the pay boost. He never made it past E-6 though he was in for well over 20 yrs...I think they finally gave it to him because they felt sorry for him...and two tours in Korea gave him some extra points.

Watching a fake fireplace on my TV and drinking coffee. We have pest control people coming through the building today and I was up all night prepping the apartment. I'm dead tired.

Trying to enjoy my semi-retirement.

Just finished watching a film free on YouTube "The Keys Of The Kingdom", starring Gregory Peck (1944) It's about a missionary in China in the early Twentieth China. Much to my surprise, there is actually a Chinese actor with some lines. Important Chines parts are of course played by Europeans.

Much to my surprise, I found myself tearing up in two parts. I'd forgotten just how good Hollywood films could be, going back to the silent era.

Must begin re watching my collection of film noir.

From a 2010 review:

"Again and again, one is impressed by the depth of talent on studio rosters of the time, in this case 20th Century-Fox. Not just Gwenn, Mitchell, Hardwicke, and Price, but James Gleason, Roddy McDowall (Chisholm as a boy), Peggy Ann Garner, Anne Revere and Benson Fong dot the cast list in this solidly crafted film –- measured, stately, patient, never loud or pounding (except when the mission is caught in a war between imperial and nascent republican troops, and Father Chisholm briefly takes up arms!). It would have to be because it's essentially a film about interiority translated into service, a film of cumulative increments.... The bottom line is that The Keys of the Kingdom and Peck convince us they're about a man in a cassock spending his life trying to do the right thing.[6] "
