Went to Crater Lake National Park today, it was a perfectly clear day, and pleasantly chilly. There is still a lot of snow at the village.

Got to read the newest chapter of Joe vs. Elan in close to a month. And it’s almost a breath of fresh air after everything in the last chapter. Sure, his band breaks up, some of the members have become heroin addicts, and his neighbor gets caught up in a drug bust, but on the bright side, he gets out and sees the world, passes his big music proficiency exam, and even gets to study abroad in a city called Vrátskajeki. I have no idea where Vrátskajeki is, except that it’s in a country that Joe’s never heard of, and it’s apparently a city nobody’s ever heard of because typing it into Google yields zero results. Maybe it’s Vratsa, Bulgaria, I don’t know. But now I wonder if Google’s going to index this page first or the official subreddit’s discussion of the chapter (which hasn’t been posted yet).

Waiting for a callback to learn if I can start donating plasma again. I kind of was hoping not, as I'm feeling lazy today. I already canceled my ILS appointment for the same reason. I so nasty.

The Vox MV50 came and it’s honestly everything I expected it would be: great tone in a package I can easily hold in my hand and plug into any speaker cabinet. That said, the 1x8 cabinet seems to work great for now.



Also, I recently found someone who somehow managed to get a hold of Jeff Beck’s Yardbirds Esquire long enough to document the specs in stupefying levels of detail, even if they made the bizarrely common mistake of only measuring a pickup’s Resistance and not the inductance or resonant peak (which are a better measurement of how a pickup sounds.) But he did include pickup height, and I decided to adjust my Esquire’s pickup accordingly. And after testing out how it works with El Presidente, I tried out a few Yardbirds licks on the Esquire and MV50 AC. And I suspect that without shelling out for a Tone Bender, it’s probably as close as I’m going to get to his tone.
