Firing up my budgeting spreadsheet for October. It looks like my discretionary for October is already spent, leaving $80 to use as needed. That's after $90 of miscellaneous or uncategorized expense which I've already allocated. A good chunk of the extra will probably be food. I've spent most of my food stamps this month and it will be the second week of October before I get more. Time to become a homebody for a while. Exercise, ride my bike, work on the computer stuff that I'm knowledgable about and keep the experimentation to a minimum. Chop wood, carry water. Still, I'm on track to have about $1500 to spend on computers at the end of the year, interruptions to donating notwithstanding. (They took a blood sample on Monday which will be tested for various things. It takes about a week or so for the results to come back, and if they're not satisfactory, I give another sample and wait. The second time after a failed test, the doctor has to review the results so it takes longer.)
Anyhoo. I only have plans for about $800 of that $1500. I could spend $500 upgrading the internals of my computer, but there's likely little point. The only exception being that one of the lesser of Intel's new CPUs due to drop this year is expected to be a tremendous bang for the buck. Beyond that, I have thoughts of getting a new TV. In addition to about $500-700 for the TV, I'd need a new entertainment stand as my current one isn't large enough for the TV that I would buy. That's likely an additional $200, though I could go minimalist. I might even go with a wall mount, but I'd have to rearrange all my furniture, so that's not a preferred option. And I don't actually need a new TV, as the cheapie that I bought at Walmart 5-10 years ago is more than sufficient for my needs.
