What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?
Making overnight oats, listening to a country playlist, and waiting for my Walmart order. They seem to always run late in the evening.

Started a pot of chili. Or, at least I think it's okay to call it chili given what I put in it. In addition to the usual, it's got celery, carrots, okra, and corn.

As of right now, my hometown is still under a boil order because of the water main that busted on Friday. This (and the ice machine in my freezer breaking last week) has made me even more aware of the need to prepare for shit like this. Granted, I still had a non-negligible amount of bottled (and canned) water in my home, but I know I never want to be in the position where we’re out of drinkable water.

Note: this video was made in May 2018. Fortunately, due to a combination of good civic planning and winter rains that year, Day Zero never came.

Inspired by this, I decided to bulk up my own water reserves, with something I call Project TVK (after the largest of the dams effected by the Cape Town crisis). Here’s what I have so far:

Adding some Fiji and Liquid Death would have been nice, but you take what you can get, and while the local Jewel wasn’t sold out of water, it looks like those two brands were among the earliest to sell out.

You found a fan sale in February? Probably left over X-mas stock.

It was a used item from Amazon Warehouse. It's going back. It's fairly quiet, but the noise it does make is very distracting.

Boil water order is over, everything is back to normal, and here’s what my water reserves look like now:

Just rearranged my practice routines. I now have three days of practicing songs, riffs, scales, strum patterns, clean chord changes (two minutes counting only changes that ring true), and finger stretching exercise; one day of practicing songs, riffs, scales, strum patterns, speed chord changes (one minute counting all changes that aren't 'bad' to 'WTF'), and finger stretching exercise; and three days of just playing/practicing/learning new songs, and adding new chords as a result of the new songs. Average daily practice/play time has grown to around an hour and a half, with some sessions running nearly three hours. Some days, I have to force myself to stop! Big Grin

Since Halloween, when I got my first guitar, I've added 7 others (Xmas and b-day were very good to me, but I had to name them all to keep them straight Big Grin), and I've gone from not knowing how to finger a guitar chord to playing rhythm on a song book of nearly 80 titles, and am now starting to learn riffs and other aspects of lead.

It's been a hell of a ride so far, and a huge help maintaining my sanity that I have something I can do that absolutely drives out all the negativity of recent weeks.

Next weekend I should be able to start my rebuild of my donor guitar. I've got all the replacement parts except for the coil splitting switches, so be expecting some photos of that.
