What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?
Weird. I bought four sticks of ECC RAM from an e-recycler. They were supposed to be 4 GB sticks, but two of them are 8 GB. I guess if they don't care, I don't care.

The more I see of this type of trouble makes me even more secure in my reticence to put any sort of data in an on-line backup service.

I guess God still hates me. My mirrored main storage on my PC has experienced an issue and the pair are currently rebuilding the mirror.

Watching football and unboxing my new K-Cup coffee maker. It's a little more complex than the old one. It will be a few days before I know if I like it.

Tried out my new K-Cup coffee maker. I was a bit worried as some reviews mentioned coffee grounds from the pods splashing around the pod holder well, but mine hasn't done that. Inserting and removing pods is both easier and harder than my old machine. The one thing I have mixed feelings about is that it's nowhere near as compact as my previous one, thus it is more difficult to move out of the way for using that counter space, and thus will probably end up taking up a permanent residence there.

Got a text last night from my youngest niece. Her second child is due in January and they just learned that Baby Boy will be born with a heart defect and will require surgery anywhere from one week to six month after birth, depending. Her doctors are highly confident that the defect is a minor one, easily correctable, and the little man should have no long-term effects.

Still…

It's hard and I am sorry to hear this news.  Wednesday I will be going with daughter-in-law for an amniocentesis to try to determine if baby boy has Muscular Dystrophy.  Though none of us can undo the outcome, we still hold our collective breath as a family that this test brings good news.  But it could be four weeks till we have results.

Hugs and good thoughts to you and yours.

I threw out my old coffee maker. I kept thinking that maybe, if I just plugged it in one more time, it would start working again. It's hard for me to let go of anything. It reminded me of a time in high school when, as always, I was frustrated by the clutter and my mom's hoarding, and thought it would be okay if I just threw out stuff that was obviously broken and useless. So I hauled out a trash can worth of stuff. At two A.M. that night, I found my mom hauling everything that I'd thrown out back inside. Worthless shit like broken tennis rackets and things with missing pieces. I had a lot of anger about her behaviors at the time. You'd think with all that anger, I'd grow up to be different. In some superficial ways, I am. But while nobody was looking, I absorbed all her values, attitudes about saving money, and loss, and all the things that drove her behavior. In many ways, I'm just like her.
