Kerrap. Still working to get my decision on a new cell phone / smart phone sussed. I want it almost solely to add roaming internet access to my tablet computer, as I don't really need the phone part. Basic one I've picked out is $80 a month. But they have a device that can give you internet alone, with no phone involved. Figured that would be cheaper. Call Sprint. Minimum data plan, $35 a month. Realistic data plan of 12 gb per month, $80 a month for data alone. Fucking-A. What I'll probably do is buy the phone from Target, as it's got a 30 day no-strings return period, and, order the device with the minimum plan -- tandem both and see what my monthly data usage is like and then decide.


Maybe one of those Sam Smith's oatmeal stouts in the fridge will help lubricate the wheels of progress.


(ETA: The fuck? You can't even buy the 3G/4G version of the Asus Infinity tablet direct from the Asus store! That's messed up.)

Do you really need unlimited? If your not doing a lot of streaming video, you may not. I use my mobile heavily, have a 5GB cap and have never hit it.

I've had a smartphone since 2010 and managed to remain on my Pay as you go plan (no mandatory top-ups), with no data attached... well, I can use data but it costs 1€ for the day I use it and it caps at 15MB... I rarely do use it. Wifi is almost everywhere I'm at (home and work)... and if I'm someplace with no wifi (doctor's office, inlaws', etc).... I play games. No need to be hooked up at all times, methinks...

And, since I'm not very talkative on the phone... I end up spending an average of... 15€... every 3 months...
My wallet thanks me.
No data plan/contract is worth paying more than 10€ per month, and that would be a doubling of my current expenditure on the phone.

Ahh.... sometimes, I really don't envy the US of A!
