Listening to my daughters play long distance Portal. One here, one in Wisconsin. Sarcasm, love, and banter. Not to mention killing each other time to time. It makes a moma smile.

That and smelling the pumpkin bread I've got baking.

In a couple hours we are all three, husband, daughter at home, and I, off to watch The Martian.

So from nerdy to domestic to nerdy, all in an hour or so.

What a beauty!

I was sitting around last night lamenting that I couldn't catch the dog (her name is Sheila) when I saw her around 5pm, so I decided to air my frustrations on facebook and I wrote up a post. A FB friend from a group we're both in saw the post and knew the city in which I lived and commented on my post with the picture of Sheila I posted in my "She's home!" post here and I thought she was joking. I responded that the photo did really look like the dog, that it was spooky, and joked about whether this friend was psychic.

She flipped out. She told me that she has a friend who lives in the same city who lost a dog within the time frame I was talking about (I'd seen her for a week), and that she was going to setup a group PM with the owner. I reiterated the same information, that she looked like a short-haired, tan, medium-sized dog, that she had a black collar with tags and that I'd seen her around for about a week and the owner flipped out.

She asked for the location/neighborhood I was at and that she was going to go out looking last night, and by the time I got YouBe up and on a leash, got some treats together, found a flashlight and rustled up a second leash in case I found her, and by the time I got out into the street to look this woman was driving up my street

We talked for a little while, I described where I had seen Sheila that day and that I had talked to neighbors that had seen her that day and where they were, told her how to get around the neighborhood and she drove off to the last-sighting location. I walked out there and ran into my backyard neighbor who said that HE had seen her that day, and by this time the owner had found us again and she exchanged phone numbers with him and we split off to look again. I did a big loop but didn't find her and ultimately called it a night when it started sprinkling.

This morning I got up and saw a text message from the owner that she had stopped by and left Sheila's blanket and some food out and that she was out looking again. I got YouBe on a leash for his morning walk and headed over to my next door neighbors to give them the owner's phone number (JIC) and literally two minutes after I left their house I got another text message from the owner saying that Sheila had been found!

The backyard neighbor saw her this morning and called the owner and she headed over and found her right where I lost track of her last night. The owner came back to my neighborhood to pick up the blanket and food and I got to formally meet Sheila, who was in the back seat getting some serious lovin' from the owner's little boy. About an hour later I got the text with the photo of Sheila laying on the floor with the little boy that I posted.

So she's home, she's fed, she's gotten a bath and has an appointment for a check up at the vet and everyone is happy and relieved.

So, that's the long story.
