Bong

Enough bongage, I might be able to enjoy Bob Marley. But I haven't smoked that shit in over 40 years.

Today is the day Dad and I drive back to Illinois. Most everything has been packed.

Finally back in my room, cooling down, both physically and mentally, after that long car drive. And I even managed to make enough time for a brief library run. And this week in the Deep Hurting Project: The Undefeated, a "documentary" (likely the last such piece of work I'll ever have to cover for the Project) about Sarah Palin directed by Steve Bannon, and the subject of this famous article from The Atlantic about a journalist who managed to go to the Orange County premiere and was the only person to actually sit through the whole film. There were two sisters who saw the first 20 minutes (and bought tickets because the last Harry Potter film [which was released the same day] was sold out and they thought it was an action movie) and a couple who just came into the theater to make out for some reason.

Chopped down my beautiful juniper today, as it got murked by a bagworm infestation. Didn't realize what it was until it was too late. Little fuckers look like pinecones.

Got halfway through digging up the stump before I almost passed out from the heat. Still a bit light headed. Oops.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

At work.

Currently freezing.

Weather report says it's 3'C or 38'F.

Thermal underwear. Thick socks. Thick pullover/jumper.

Still feeling the cold bitting in.

I swear I’m still hung over from last night.

Did discover that my singing voice hasn’t improved.

Drunk karaoke singing Forever Autumn is not a way to endear yourself to a crowd.

Next time, try it topless.  That generally merits a certain level of endearment.

Normally I would but apparently they have a dress code.

And Jess, who was with me, wasn’t that drunk...

Trying to learn how to play "Duncan."

The chord structure is easy enough and, if the transcription I've found of it is any indication, the Los Incas solo sections are pretty simple, but I think the Du-da-Du-da-DUM sections might need to be simplified before I can get the muscle memory down there. And, of course, I'll have to learn the lyrics, too.

At Ravinia now, watching the CSO go through the Eroica symphony. It looks like the building they’ve been adding onto the complex is finally ready for prime time, and it’s basically a museum. And they’re holding an exhibition of Leonard Bernstein relics for the rest of the season.

On another note, my local Guitar Center is currently having a sale on Road Runner pedalboard bags. Now $20 off for a price of $30! It’s a god size, and I hope I can figure out how to actually use it as a pedalboard. I thought there was a little solid board inside, but no, just a bottom that’s the softer side of Velcro (for the other pedals to be affixed.)

Also, earlier today, I was trying to stream Graceland. So, imagine that you’re playing a great album and for every second or so of music, some force just pauses it for four or five seconds and then repeats the cycle ad infinitum. That was what it was like trying to play it at work using Youtube and Chromecast. And what’s weird is that I think four or five songs (Graceland, Diamonds, You Can Call Me Al, All Around the World, and I think Under African Skies) actually played normally. And then when it was finally done, Rhythm of the Saints (his next album) actually played normally. I suspect that the repeal of net neutrality might have something to do with this. I’ve noticed that internet service has gotten a lot more chaotic since the FCC repealed it.
