It was damaged on delivery, and he's planning on fixing it. And, frankly, if that's the extent of the damage, I've seen acoustic guitars that somehow ended up in a playable condition from even worse. We've managed to resurrect guitars (and a tiple) that even professionals wrote off as only useful for parts (though the tiple still goes out of tune rather quickly.)
While it’s true that virtually any instrument can be repaired, I’m not at all sure that one is worth the effort. Repairs that extensive (it looks as if the entire back will have to be replaced) tend to kill the value of vintage instruments.
Of course, if you’re fixing it just to fix it and not for resale, it’s a different story.

I'm not sure about my Dad's intentions, but I'd be thinking of fixing it, playing it, and maybe adding a pickup (either one of those floating pickups or a surface-mount Gold Foil pickup.)

About to head off to Brizzy, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Caloundra, etc for a few days... (Gold coast, Sunshine coast then back home to Fraser Coast).

Just woke up - planning a nap for the near future. Couldn't seem to fall asleep last night, was after 1 am when I finally drifted off. We have no plans for today so a nap seems like a reasonable way to spend part of the day.
In fact we have no plans for the next three days...naps may be in order for the next 72 hours.
