What's everyone up to right now?

Just finished installing and configuring a new router. We are cruising now at about 486 Mbps download speed.

And now for a minor saga that's been happening for about a week or two: while looking for something else, I found one of my Dad's old pocketwatches that somehow ended up among my possessions. Once I wound it up a bit, I found it worked. Sure, the crystal of the watch was cracked, but at least it worked and I started to wonder about carrying one around regularly.



And it was good for about a day or two, because shortly after it, Dad tried to open up the back because there was no way to pry that crystal off from the front. And something inside it broke. It wouldn't last for very long, and it was a crapshoot whether or not the little watch crown would even turn. So, Dad decided to find a newer one.



It came a couple days ago, and while I was uneasy about the fact that it wasn't mechanical and that the battery was nigh on impossible to get to at first, it started to grow on me.  Indeed, I started to like it enough that I decided I needed to make sure it was at the right time according to the Greenwich Observatory. At least, I think this is their website.



I even liked the little leather pouch that came with it.



But that said, Dad found a mechanical watch and he decided that the one that I liked less would be sent back.



And then, today, the mechanical watch came, and... I honestly did not care for it. The fact that I grew to enjoy the electric watch aside, there were a couple weird things that ensured it would be the one going back. The first thing I decided to do was to set it to the right time. Down to the same Greenwich second that the other watch had. You'd think that this would be easy, right? Not really. I could set the minute and hour hands, but the seconds hand just kept going. Unlike literally every other watch I've ever used, the seconds hand seemed to work entirely independent of the crown lever. And worse, there was actually another little seconds dial, so I actually had two seconds hands that had the wrong time. And even more bizarrely, there was another miniature dial on the watch face, a 24-hour clock. It always stayed at exactly 1 hour behind the main clock. So, between two separate seconds hands, neither of which are under my control, and its displaying the time in Denver for whatever reason, I realised this was the one to bring back.



Hopefully, if I have to send the good one to a jeweler to replace the battery, they can do it easily.

Working on a bottle of tequila blanco in the form of fresh squeezed margaritas and planning a long weekend in Ajijic, Jalisco - it has an appealing climate (ten months out of twelve) and I'm thinking this might be a decent spot to live in in the summer. Giving serious thought to moving up retirement to next year instead of 2025.
