She works in a cath lab. It's just a lot of long hours and the people she works with are cliquish and backstabbing, so, it stresses her out. She has to be on call a lot at night so she has trouble sleeping, even when she doesn't get called in. And she's sick with a cold, again. She's been sick 3-4 times just this year(not Covid). The way she talks about it, she sounds absolutely miserable. I once suggested to her that she should leave or try to transfer to a different lab but those aren't options. She is learning coding in her spare time but it's slow going and she just started a few months ago.

I dunno. It's one of those things where she just needs to talk but I hate this type of talking without thinking of solutions.

It seems to me she simply needs to restrict interaction there to work-related conversation and ignore everything else. It's what I do. I don't concern myself with my coworkers or what drama they're attempting to stir up.

Let her know that I, for one, am extremely thankful for the skilled people in cath labs.  Were it not for the one the ambulance brought me to almost fours years ago, I'd have been a goner.  I'm sure people weren't thrilled to be called in the wee hours of Labor Day to keep my heart pumpin'.  But, with one exception, everyone I can remember was wonderful.  The other guy was grumpy as fuck because I have crappy veins.  I wasn't really enjoying the process either...but it's out of my control.

Thanks, El, I'll suggest that. It's harder done than said for some folks but it'll be something to say other than "I'm sorry you're having to deal with that" again.

Also, is she one of those types who cares what others think about her? Because if she is, my advice probably won't do any good. One has to not care what others think of one's self in order to survive in such hostile work environments.

It took some practice, mainly with age, but I have reached the point where I simply don't care what others think of me. I'm not there to please them, but to do my job.

Yes, she is. Her workmates have said awful and insensitive things to her and upset her before. She's a very sweet person.

Trying to console someone about their stressful job. I suck at this, by the by.

I don't feel like we're having a real conversation. She talks about this almost every time we talk and at this point, it's just me repeating things she said back to her while saying "Sorry" "aw" and "that's tough" and tacking on a "well hopefully..." positive spin tacked onto the end. I am a problem solver. I dislike sitting around and complaining or wallowing in a bad stressful situation. So when it comes to other people and I know she just needs someone to listen, I'm biting my tongue for stuff she doesn't want to hear about how to "fix it".

It gets better with practice. Just hang in there.

After a week of fighting with Apple to get a password reset approved by the Grand Poobah, I finally got that done Sunday night. Today the Frontier tech showed up and replaced every piece of FIOS equipment we had here at the house. Now we shall see if that fixes the issue of the Internet going up and down and up and down nearly every night.

One call I made to them, the CRS said my Internet had gone down 81 times in just a few days...yeah, that's why I'm grumpy and tired of calling you.

I really don't want to have to make any more calls to tech support of any kind for a while.
