I'm so sorry to hear that it just so sucks how no-one can take anything for granted with this horrible virus... constantly getting mixed messages about it; one minute and in one ear, it's mild, don't worry about it, and in the other, the opposite. Hope you feel better
^So much this. And this new variant is running rampant. The symptoms are all over the place. A negative test today can mean nothing tomorrow.
Stay as safe as you can out there folks...this crap is coming for everyone.

It makes me particularly worried for anywhere that wants to go the herd immunity route, like Australia if I understand correctly, because every time that's like the optimistic but ultimately knee-jerk and uninformed response. Ie we (as in people and governments) always seem to think we know more about it than we do, and get complacent and willing to take risks, and then it comes around and surprises us in some new way, or with a new variant, by which time it might be too late if we've done something we can't take back like going for herd immunity. So yeah, particularly scared for Australia if that's what they're doing (I may be wrong on that or not up to date though).

My husband and I are vaccinated and take precautions such as wearing masks and limiting exposure to humans in general, and he still caught it...that's what he got for Christmas. I am fairly sure I had it the following week but thanks to having all the shots (booster included) I was really only under the weather for a day though tired for a couple more. At this point, I think the only thing we can do is live in a sterile bubble.

Yeah, that's kind of my approach... I, and my parents who I live with, are all boostered up, but I don't feel any safer really... still very rarely go out, and certainly nowhere crowded. Basically I always treat it as a lockdown, and basically shield, whether it officially is at the time or not - mainly because since I smoked so long, and very heavily, before I quit, I think I've done a huge amount of damage to my lungs over the years... granted it's slowly healing I think (I used to need to take mints with me everywhere I went just to help me breathe, but now I don't, so that's small progress), so I think I'd be more at risk on account of that. Also I'm just a worrier by nature, so that doesn't help.
My sister has long covid, from the first variant, and combined with underlying conditions it has completely ruined her life... she has so little energy now to do anything, when before she was the most get up and go person you could ever hope to meet...it's so sad.
Anyway, I hope you and your husband feel better soon too

If you haven't yet, get the N/KN95 masks. The current science says it makes a big difference.

Australia and NZ have the lowest covid death tolls in the world. I think it was Denmark that left it to heard immunity.
You should know by now how careful and draconian our covid laws are here. Even poor old Tennis No1 got caught up in it.

I wasn't sure tbh... sorry about that. I thought your PM came and made a speech about it recently... what looked like a uturn from those draconian measures? I don't know what I'm thinking of then if it wasn't that. All I know is I saw a YouTube video about those draconian measures in Australia and it scared the shit out of me... but the video may have been a bit alarmist and/or may have been Russell Brand. I don't know if you know him over there, but he's basically a bit of a quirky/hippy comedian, as well as outspoken on a lot of subjects... as interesting as he is, I'm never quite sure how much stock to put in his videos, since they do sometimes seem to tend a bit towards conspiracy theories, but nonetheless he does usually have an interesting perspective on most things. Not sure as I said if that's where I got this from, but wouldn't be surprised.
ETA: Nevermind, I remember where I got it from... the following video from a few weeks ago by the YouTuber Dr. John Campbell... who's been objectively reporting on the pandemic on a probably daily basis ever since it started and has been my main source of covid news in all that time:

Ha!
The nurses think they're in charge just because I'm confined to bed!
They're learning differently tonight!
