What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?
It's been an eventful few days. Walked away from a pretty nasty auto crash (that my poor car didn't survive, and if not for a strategically-placed guard rail, neither would I), grabbed a rental and salvaged everything we could, and have spent the past four days ordering and assembling stuff. The home is almost furnished, and will be more like an actual home by middle of next week, which is just a few days before we head back to NYC. And then the last six months before I move out here permanently, which already seems to be taking too damned long.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I feel cheated, but congrats on totally surviving like a boss Smile
Please give me a home where cloud buffalo roam
Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
But the skies are not stormy all day

Calling relatives and waiting for calls to be returned. A good day actually. I'm catching up with many people I haven't talked to in a year or two or three.

Mild sprain of the left wrist and a couple of tiny scratches on my right hand. I got clipped by a truck that was trying to pass me on the left (with two trailers on a curved road with an incline in the rain and in the dark). His second trailer strayed into my lane and before I knew it we were making a big S and hit the guardrail at an almost 90 degree angle. The truck driver, as far as I know, never even slowed down.

The car was so wedged into the guardrail that the tow truck that was trying to winch it out was being dragged towards the car instead of the other way around, but he finally got it loose. The guardrail has a huge bend in it now, and if it wasn't reinforced by a post at the exact spot where I hit, I wonder if it would've held. The car was packed with stuff I was moving to the home, and aside from a laptop that got turned into a parenthesis, everything else is banged up but works. I'll give Toyota credit for living up to its rep for safety. That car went all Jesus Christ on me, giving up its life that I may be saved.

On the even brighter side, when you do finally take possession of my eternal soul, I'll have a few more tales to tell by the fireside at the end of all time.

Just want to say, I had heterosexual sex last night. I don't think I'll be trying that again. Like, ever. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't good. It was oatmeal.

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
