Many of us were significantly (and rightly) late or entirely absent from work yesterday because of winter weather.
After a discussion about how our company is non-essential (in comparison to say, a hospital, or grocery store) and how we should have just canceled work that day, a coworker who had been out completely because he had to take care of his son (who had no school) started complaining about how he had driven his son to five different barber shops attempting to get him a hair cut, but all of them were closed. How frustrating is that?
So let's recap: the conversation was about how non-essential personnel shouldn't go in to work when most of the roads have about an inch of ice on them.
But it's essential for a 4 year old kid to get a hair cut during that same period. Essential enough to be driving around while it's still below-freezing to make five attempts at it.
I wish there was a god, and then I could blame him/her for the active stupidity and selfishness I encounter on a day to day basis.
