I've been finding a lot of "prophecies" that failed and countless inconsistencies. it's a wonder how do many are fooled. They fail to see the truth... our maybe they just don't want to

Yes. The latter.

I attribute it to a personality flaw which makes reality frightening to them.

I think it's the latter, for the most part. They've been brought up to believe their book is true and the god described in it is real; so when the book says something was supposed to happen that quite clearly didn't, it can't be the book in error therefore it must be something that hasn't happened yet.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Don't forget GC's wonderful argument that when God said he'd totally destroy the city of Tyre never to be rebuilt or found again, he was talking about the old city of Tyre, not the new one which was rebuilt on top of the old city. And we'll just ignore that part about being covered by the sea.

I used to be on the other side of the fence and sure sometimes it still gets to me that the fairy tales are just that... but that's the way things are. At some point a man's gotta grow up and make peace with reality

I saw a great analogy one time for that particular mindset. It went something like: "Xtians will go to Tokyo with a map of London and then insist that their map is right but city is laid out wrong."

Jesus. Tongue The question that immediately popped into my mind is what, exactly, does GC thing the word rebuild even means.

If they can't twist the words in the bible to suit their purposes, they'll just twist anything else, it seems. Anything to avoid getting on speaking terms with reality...
