Reasons for God

RE: Reasons for God
Don't you think that sounds very sad that you can't look at anything through fresh eyes? We all justify of course, we live through memory of our environment. Intellectual concepts don't have to be constrained to tightly.

Well, I for one give everything a once over Smile I take it on faith that my computer won't turn into a car before my eyes though Smile

No you don't take anything of that sort on faith. If it were common occurence for computers to turn themselves into cars, then that might be a faith thing.

This is the way it's meant to be. It's supposed to look foolish or annoying to you by design, if you don't see the truth in it.

Not necacarily, as you dont have to understand an idea to know enough about it to know its a dumb-assed idea, or perhaps a harmful one, as your people might stray from you (christianity).

It is these unfreshened eyes, as you call them, that make each of us who we are. Without these experiences and past prejudices, we woould be nothing but clone-puppets of our farthest ancestors. What we have been through makes us good leaders, or caring people to become doctors, or lawyers, or computer programmers. You gain your strength from your past, your knowlege, everything.
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Yes certainly gave my life meaning as I had "turn the other cheek" beaten into me, and that meaning (at the time) was "worthless".

You ran out of cheeks to turn then. I've had similar life experiences.

Quote:The title of this thread is "Reasons for God" , God is there for people who dont have the bollox to stand and face the world on their own to feet, and take responsibility for their own lives and actions, but let me tell you when you do, and when you realize what you have just done that is a real life experience.

Your point is that God is for the weak (or irresponsible). I believe that God wants us to be responsible for who we are - which takes strength more than weakness.

Then how much strength would one person need?

I believe a person just needs to do the best they can (willpower), all around - physically strong, mentally sharp, and morally straight, etc.

No it is not self evident.

It is.

Nope. How is it self-evident? If it was self-evident how come so many people - such as myself - doubt it?

Where's the evidence?

EvF Wrote:Because you have not shown 1. That this cannot be done without faith.

Ecolox Wrote:Now you're straying from the original question and responding to a different one.

I am not straying at all. I am being completely on topic. You claimed above how "[...]faith in something that is far greater than yourself or God results in greater humility or selflessness". I am saying in this first point (point '1.') that you have not shown that humility and selflessness equal to this cannot be done without faith. You are merely asserting that it is self-evident. What point is there in asserting to me that it is "self-evident"? Well it's not self evident as far as I am concerned okay? So perhaps you could actually evidence to me how, faith, how belief without evidence, can be amount to greater morality than believing with evidence? And how, more specifically, does putting this "Faith" in "God" make any difference?

Quote:Also, by ruling out faith you have excluded almost everything, if not everything (beyond one's own mind).
How so?

Evidence the credibility of "Faith" that you apparently believe in then. Why do you believe that believing in God gives you extra power to do morality? As I said in my entirely relevant point in point '1.', what makes you think that all these acts of morality isn't just as good without faith...or, more specifically: Show me that this cannot be done without faith because otherwise, what you say, I consider completely totally and utterly baseless.

Quote:I think its really something that belief in God produces the best results in the world.
1. Prove that. 2. In cases where such a belief may be consoling to an individual, as I said...that doesn't make the belief true!

Have you read much about string theory? That time started with the Big Bang is, in fact, debatable.

Anyway, it's very nice to see that we allow such open discussion here. I recently posted a few of my own observations (nothing offensive, no personal attacks, etc.) on godandscience.org, and, would you believe it, my post was very quickly deleted.
