Shit...if there was no more religion then we'd have no reason to call ourselves A
atheists anyway. We only exist because people are still hooked on 2000 year-old fairy tales.

Its the sheer transparency of the argument that winds me up:

"You can't know for 100% certain that there isn't a God."
"True"
"Ah ha - and therefore that God has to be my God because...."
"Oh - for fuck's sake."

The reason is because first you sound arrogant as hell trying to dictate the meaning of the word atheist to a atheist, secondly there is no real difference between someone self identifying as a agonistic or a atheist, they both disbelieve.
Anything that distracts from proving that their god exists, I guess. The simplest response is to ask them if they are agnostic or atheist regarding all other gods but theirs. Does the Christian leave open the possibility that Allah exists? Does the Muslim leave open the possibility that Vishnu exists? I can't remember a single religious person that I've personally known who felt that anyone else's god might exist. They just saw other gods as creations of their god's enemies.

The only time a theist is concerned with the question of agnostic vs atheist is when it comes to their god(s). Otherwise they are just as much an atheist as anyone else.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I think that is the best reply to gve to that "argument".

I don't wish to get my trumpet out - maybe later - but I think that might have been me. As I recall, it was something like "Well, at least you've found a way to be superior to both [atheists and agnostics]; that's the main thing."
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I don't care what they want to call me. I don't believe in their god or any others, so take that how you will. To me, it means atheist.

But I do think it has a lot to do with their argument of, "See? You can't prove atheism true so therefore atheism is false and Christianity is true!"
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.
