Welcome

Your modal argument was pathetic.

Did that sound disrespectful?

first, you assume the story is irrational. second, just because someone believes something that seems unreasonable or something that is not true doesn't mean they're irrational in that belief. someone is rational when they can use reason or logic to justify their beliefs. the logic itself does not prove the proposition true but it makes it rational to believe the proposition.

You think that use "reason or logic" to justify a belief is a good thing.
Therefore I have a question. How do you define "reason and logic" ?

Also I have some questions about yours beliefs because you're a non-denominational Christians and each of them have different POV :

1.Are you a YEC or an OEC ? if you're a YEC or an OEC can you explain why ?
If you are not a creationist of this kind can you say the reason ?

2.Why are you a non-denominational Christian ?

3.Do you believe that Exodus did happened ?

4.Do you think that Bible contain contradictions ?

5.Do you think that NT doesn't have interpolations ?

6.What do you think about apocryphas (in the academic sense , I'm not speaking about the deuterocanonicals books contain in "Catholic Canon")

I'm sure those and many other questions can be addressed in the forum proper. The intro section is not an appropriate place for that sort of stuff. There's a subtle clue in the name, if you know where to look.

I see you've already put yourself about a bit, AKD, but welcome from me anyway!
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

glad you asked. the picture represents a character from my favorite anime, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. the character is someone they call "the truth" and thus not only represents the anime i enjoy, but represents the truth that i am always seeking. i choose an image of him face palming as representative of my reaction to those who deny truth Big Grin
I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with senses, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use and by some other means to give us knowledge which we can attain by them.

Bear in mind that what you call truth may not be related to reality.
One does strive to have his own truth statements in tune with reality, to the best of one's abilities, but not always accomplishes the best job possible. That's when peer review comes into play.

it may not be appropriate here, but nonetheless i'll answer your questions so long as you don't drag it out as a huge interrogation.
Quote:Therefore I have a question. How do you define "reason and logic" ?
reason and logic are the systematic guidelines, or perhaps more accurately laws, that allow us to discern truth.
Quote:1.Are you a YEC or an OEC ? if you're a YEC or an OEC can you explain why ?
i'm mostly skeptical on those positions, but I tend to side more with OEC allowing an allegorical interpretation of the creation story.
Quote:2.Why are you a non-denominational Christian ?
I don't particularly like to be labeled under a specific set of beliefs when I may or may not particularly have them. I am Christian, in the sense that I accept the bible as truth and I study it to the best of my ability. but I don't like the idea of being a part of any specific denomination. the closest I could narrow it down is Protestant Molinism.
Quote:3.Do you believe that Exodus did happened ?
yes, but i'm not inclined to take it as literally as others are. for example, i'm open to the possibility that Moses rather than turning the river to literal blood, a red tide could have come in and made it appear as blood.
Quote:4.Do you think that Bible contain contradictions ?
I think it can appear as such, but they can be easily rectified. either by looking at the context, the original language, the historical context, the cultural context, the events in the story, etc. some also may appear due to interpolations.
Quote:5.Do you think that NT doesn't have interpolations ?
well I think I kind of just answered that lol. yes I do; and no, I don't think this taints the message. there are over 400,000 textual variants, 75% are spelling errors, and 15% synonyms/transpositions; none of which change any meaning in the text. the last 10% are mostly non-viable changes leaving less than 1% viable changes, which are an estimate of 1,000 total. out of these 1,000 variants, all of them are only important in exegesis and none of them affect theology. yes, there are interpolations, but no I don't think they're a problem.
Quote:6.What do you think about apocryphas (in the academic sense , I'm not speaking about the deuterocanonicals books contain in "Catholic Canon")
I don't think they belong in the cannon. they have several inconsistencies with the other books, they are written by lesser known prophets sometimes accredited to greater prophets even though they couldn't possibly have written them (like the wisdom of Solomon), and have several factual errors like geographical errors.

don't worry. I always consider the possibility that i'm wrong. i'm not perfect, and I don't claim to know truth with absolute certainty. as you saw in my post, i'm actively seeking truth.

Thank you for the explanation. I'm grateful.

Do you have a specific philosophical theory of truth that you favor, or just 'truth' as colloquially understood? (I haven't settled on one myself, other than a general skepticism of correspondance theories of truth.)

I don't really favor any of them. I believe that truth is objective, meaning it is what it is regardless of what we believe. as to how we can find it, I think the correspondence and coherence theories hold some value when coupled together. the pragmatic theory I don't think has any value whatsoever in finding truth. it may be useful in finding what's helpful, but the truth is not always helpful. I'm not well researched on theories of truths to be honest, however. I also explained a bit on what I think rational belief is on this thread:
