Indeed they do... But the slow down should be due to heat. If only our computers all ran at temperatures near absolute zero Smile

The slow down is due to the file system getting clogged up with files. Makes it slower to find certain files. That's why people should defragment their hard drives every month or so. Mac is slightly better than Windows on having hard drives fragmented, but Linux is better than both of them, due to the way the Ext and Reiser systems work.

Even with regular defrags your system will slow down over time. It's a fact of life.

As hardware is used, sure. You shouldn't notice a slowdown that quickly if you defrag often though Big Grin

Course, upgrading your RAM / HDD will keep your computer nice and speedy.
