He doesn't say they don't have the information - he says they didn't collect it. Probably French security did and then traded it with them for something else - look at the calm reaction of the French authorities.
He makes no mention of the bugging of French diplomats (because they did do that).
You have to learn to read into the double speak here.

Yes, of course the US intelligence community obtained that information through other sources, but didn't "collect" it themselves.

Must be all those "French Fry" propaganda sales in the US. Terrorism, either in the form of bombs or french fries, must be fought to the fullest extent of our ability to protect our freedom. Even if it means giving up our freedom to win this battle against those forces of evil.
