How have we segued into talking about a book? We were discussing gods.

There is no photographer in that picture. Now there's a metaphor for you!
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

"God works in mysterious ways." Heh, the mistake here is thinking that there's even a god doing work.

One thing I was referred a lot as a chrisitan when struggling, the story of Job.....check this out
Iin a quick summary, Job was a guy who was super faithful to the Lord, then god made a bet with satan (lol?) that if Job's life wasn't so blessed, he wouldn't be so faithful......So God said "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED"
and killed his family, his livestock, etc, gave him bodily sickness, and Job was super faithful the whole time, but he was only human, so when it came to the point where he broke and was like "why god???".....God yelled at him for losing his faith....
on the plus side, he gave him back his wealth and house and stuff....but not his family, they got to stay dead.
This story is told a lot to people in the Christian community who suffer from depression, or just struggle in general.....

So, if we are addressing the problem of evil (which assumes the existence of a God, otherwise how could He be so careless?) I can talk about God and Pain, but I cannot bring up heaven, which would be the philosophies presentation of the end of all pain, or what God said in regards to suffering and pain.
Next thread to start: Discussion of Moby Dick, but if anyone brings up Ishmael I declare them completely off topic!

There is only suffering because God made suffering possible, and he would only do that if he enjoys suffering, because there is no such thing as necessity for an omnipotent and omniscient being.

Apparently heaven would be being locked in a room with Belinda Carlisle.

so in other words, a child whom inherits great wealth but proves himself to be the most proverbial Christian possible is lower than a impoverished boy whom dies by the age of 7 due to starvation believing in a pantheon of gods? Twisting things myself I may admit, but too much of the scriptures point out bias towards groups. It's ok to murder children under the age of accountability. It's ok to force a king to subdue his people to countless plauge based on pride (which the Hebrew god invented), its ok to lie and say "you have the will to choose" and then turn around saying how Lucifer, the fall, the Tribulations and the great white throne judgment was all according to plan and sealed in fate. It's ok that dictators pillage, rape, destory and slaughter countless millions because "god knows best". It's ok that hundreds of thousands die to desiese and slavery to the sudden invasion of Europeans of the native Americans. It's all ok. Mysterious ways indeed. "sigh"
