I've become far too cynical.

It's not like your cynicism is without reason.

How do you really feel cato? As I said, IF he broke a rule then the suspension is valid and I naturally support it. Going from a young man expressing himself, to that same young man being worthy of ridicule because of a name given to him by his parents, is a connection I am unable to make. If he did it as a publicity stunt, then I agree "Fuck Skylar!" But there seems to be some details of the story that are missing.

It makes him kind of an ass if he broke the rule and then brought on this whole media charade. I mean he's putting people's jobs in danger. It does sound like he broke the rule, otherwise he would've said he did leave his bag outside during his classes and they suspended him anyway.

It is very possible that he broke the rule; the stories lack certain details. I feel that if he broke a rule and brought publicity on purpose, that he should not only be suspended, but perhaps expelled. This is about getting an education, and not about being an individual and expressing one's fashion preferences.

Expulsion is extreme I feel, that makes it much more difficult for him to actually get an education, which as you said, is the main point here. Just suspend him, make him write an apology, let him back into class is what I would do. Expulsion should only be done when the student's presence in school disrupts other students' ability to learn, and it is due to something that the student can control: like bullying and refusing to stop, bringing weapons to school and refusing to stop, you know the type. I once know a kid who held my classmate hostage (with a knife to her throat), they didn't expel him, I thought it was ridiculous.

If he did this deliberately to bring negative publicity to his school; yes.

It's fucking Kansas. They're probably afraid he won't listen to the creationist horseshit in science class.
