RE: Atheists ONLY - Are you less happy now that you are an atheist?

I wasn't happy before, but rather content. I was willing to go through life like that. Now I am happy. I have struggles and hardship as I did before, and now I deal with it instead of "putting it all in his hands" which makes it more difficult now. Not because I am missing help, I never got the help. It's because I see the truth now and have to do something about it. Still I am happier. I am free and alive.

I've always been an atheist. I used to struggle with depression, and still do sometimes, but overall it's under control.

Yeah, let's see your cards!
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

I was raised by atheists and never had a god-belief, so I can't answer your poll.

I'm not sure I ever really had belief, but once I realized how unlikely the god scenario is, it made my head feel like it was screwed on a little straighter.

I was born atheist - as was everybody - and I'm luckily for me nothing ever happened to change that.
In fact I think I'd like to - not "object", that's too strong, but certainly express concern at the phrasing of the question.
The assumption that all atheists were religious once before undergoing some sort of deconversion plays into the notion that god-belief is the DEFAULT, that normal people believe and that it's only discontented freaks like us - to whom, obviously, something BAD must have happened - who don't believe.
The very expression "loss of faith" implies LOSS, that we had something important which we've managed to "lose ", that there's something missing from our lives, when the reality is we've managed to rid ourselves (or in the case of the truly lucky ones like me, were never burdened with) something pernicious and entirely superfluous.

I realized I was an atheist at the nice age of 9 or 10. Before that... I just went with what everyone told me, even if implicitly... catholic country all that.
I was a kid... I was as happy as a city kid can be. I played with my brother and school buddies. I went to school, got good grades, read comic books, watch cartoons and Sesame Street... we lived with our divorced dad. We liked it that way. It worked well.
As many 1st world kids, not a care in the world, except for school.
Then I realized something that people talked about was missing from the world... that all-knowing, omnipresent entity they called god.
I was the same person after that realization.
Kept getting good grades, kept living with my dad and brother, kept watching tv, cartoons, movies, etc... reading books, comics, etc... kept growing up without the delusion that I saw in others... mostly elders.
I've gone to church, on occasion... I noticed the "church population" decline, the age average increase... meaning other youngsters were coming to the same realization I came to.
I'm good. Still young at heart, still with good hopes for mankind, still naive of other people's intentions... Still thinking that justice works... still deluded by other things... just not that one.

I am wanting to know if just losing the god belief itself has caused you permanent unhappiness.
My life sucks man, I have mom who loves me and supports me. I have two best friends who treat me like shit. I have a cat who is a bully and wakes me up early in the morning and has rabies. I got herpies from fucking a goat. IT LIED TO ME!
No man, I am miserable. I wish I had never stopped believing in the almighty snarfwidget.
Nobody is going to read this, right?
