Oh, and right before a storm, everyone runs to the stores to stockpile everything ("GOTTA GET THE BREAD AND THE MILK"). Fill up pots and/or bathtubs with water before a storm so you can flush the toilet, and if you have a gas stove you will be set regarding food. If not, get some snack foods beforehand but try not to go to the stores last minute since there will be NOTHING.
Wtf, snow can really cause that much disruption? Is this a concern for people living in the city or out in the country?

Boston is going to be a blast. To be fair, they handle shit better than Providence, RI; southeastern Mass and RI had a snow storm back in like 2004-05 where in Providence they tried sending kids to school before a storm and it ended up taking 6 - 12 hours for many of those kids to be bused home. Fucking stupid shit. The other schools just knew - no school for a week, stay home kiddos.

You're fucked.
All good advice. One thing I can add is to keep whatever you need in your car to get by in the event that you get stuck and can't get help promptly. In the city, that means overnight.
If I have to travel off the beaten path in winter, I keep the whole nine yards: sleeping bag, cold weather gear, stove, fuel, nonperishable food, a portable radio transceiver, and shelter.
If you think that's paranoid, several winters back, a family in my state took a wrong turn in a storm and was stranded. Those that stayed with the car survived - barely. The father set out for help after no rescue came after nearly a week. He died of exposure. I don't recall how long it took to find the survivors, but it was a *long* time and I don't think many thought they would be found alive. Things like that are not common, but having to wait for help is.
Myself, after having to spend a very cold night in my car after being stuck, I prefer to be prepared.

Oh yeah, the CNET journalist and his family in 2006 I believe, right? They were driving through a state or national park in Washington or Oregon and they went down a road that was supposed to be closed but wasn't for some reason and got stranded.

As a life-long northerner, my advice is to move south.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Your new BFFs
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.
Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.
Quote:Some people deserve hell.
I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

Oh shit yeah, don't forget a scraper. Once, my ex-boss told me a story about someone who moved up north and called her one day where there was frost and said "I cant come to work, I cannot get into my car". My manager was like "Umm... get a scraper, genius." She was a judgmental bitch, but it really is easy to overlook such a thing.
