The attempts of the atheists are only grotesque

After this cruel analysis the learned of this world have nothing left of all that was sacred of old. But they have only analysed the parts and overlooked the whole, and indeed their blindness is marvellous. Yet the whole still stands steadfast before their eyes, and the gates of hell shall not prevail
against it. Has it not lasted nineteen centuries, is it not still a living, a moving power in the individual soul and in the masses of people? It is still as strong and living even in the souls of atheists, who have destroyed everything! For even those who have renounced Christianity and attack it, in their inmost being still follow the Christian ideal, for hitherto neither their subtlety nor the ardour of their hearts has been able to create a higher ideal of man and of virtue than the ideal given by Christ of old. When it has been attempted, the result has been only grotesque."

The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky

... aaaand I care what a dead russian philosopher wrote because why???

A lot of people write a lot of stuff. This bit of propaganda is Dostoevsky's own biased opinion of the god that he happens to believe in. NOTHING more.

It is a man with concepts and ideas that make cars happen. Oh, but that's just a "play of words".
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I don't feel the need to create a higher ideal than humanity. I also see a lot in the holy books which is grotesque.

The work you are quoting is fictional. It is a character speaking, not Dostoyevsky himself.

It is a man with concepts and ideas that makes peace happen.

It is a man with concepts and ideas that makes torture happen.

It is a man with concepts and ideas that makes justice happen.

It is a man with concepts and ideas that makes religion happen

It is a man with no concepts or ideas of his own that keeps quoting dostoevsky

Dostoyevsky couldn't have defended his delusions about magic god any better than you are.
The only things you know about god has been told to you by mouth or written word by other men, very human and very dishonest men.

Yo, if god is invisible, how come We lack his cloaking technology? Only recently (20+ years) did Japanese and American research departments develop this technology. We should have had it since year 1, yo!

Quote:Nun: So, you don't believe in God...because of Alice in Wonderland?

Loki: No, Through the Looking Glass, that poem "The Walrus and the Carpenter," that's an indictment of organized religion. The walrus, with his girth and good nature, obviously represents either Buddha or, with his tusks, the Hindu elephant god Lord Ganesha – that takes care of your eastern religions. Now the carpenter, which is an obvious reference to Jesus Christ, who was raised a carpenter's son, he represents the western religions. Now in the poem, what do they do? What do they do? They dupe all these oysters into following them and then proceed to shuck and devour the helpless creatures en masse. Now I don't know what that says to you, but to me it says that following these faiths based on mythological figures ensures the destruction of one's inner being. Organized religion destroys who we are by inhibiting our actions, by inhibiting our decisions, out of fear of some intangible parent figure, who shakes a finger at us from thousands of years ago and says "Do it, do it and I'll fucking spank you!" The existentialists can keep their Kierkegaard and their Sartre — give me Lewis Carroll any day. That guy knows what time it is!

Nun: The way you put it... I've never thought about it like that before. What...what have I been doing with my life?

Loki: Yeah, I know. Look, why don't you take this money you're collecting for your parish, and go out and buy yourself a new dress. Fix yourself up. Find some man. Find some woman. Find anyone you can connect with, even for a moment. Because that's all that life really is, Sister — it's a series of moments. Why don't you go seize yours? Attagirl.

Quote:A legion of horribles, hundreds in number, half naked or clad in costumes attic or biblical or wardrobed out of a fevered dream with the skins of animals and silk finery and pieces of uniform still tracked with the blood of prior owners, coats of slain dragoons, frogged and braided cavalry jackets, one in a stovepipe hat and one with an umbrella and one in white stockings and a bloodstained wedding veil and some in headgear or cranefeathers or rawhide helmets that bore the horns of bull or buffalo and one in a pigeontailed coat worn backwards and otherwise naked and one in the armor of a Spanish conquistador, the breastplate and pauldrons deeply dented with old blows of mace or sabre done in another country by men whose very bones were dust and many with their braids spliced up with the hair of other beasts until they trailed upon the ground and their horses' ears and tails worked with bits of brightly colored cloth and one whose horse's whole head was painted crimson red and all the horsemen's faces gaudy and grotesque with daubings like a company of mounted clowns, death hilarious, all howling in a barbarous tongue and riding down upon them like a horde from a hell more horrible yet than the brimstone land of Christian reckoning, screeching and yammering and clothed in smoke like those vaporous beings in regions beyond right knowing where the eye wanders and the lip jerks and drools

A Comanche attack, courtesy of Cormac McCarthy, Blood Meridian

It mentioned Christianity, so it seemed as relevant as the Dostoyevsky.
