I've always had a sneaking suspicion that the real reason that the UN gave the Jews Palestine after the war was because they expected the Arabs to solve the "Jewish Problem" for them.
Look at it this way, Jews move to Palestine, pissed off Palestinians supported by surrounding Arab countries slaughter colonists.
UN, ( as it has many times since) stands by wringing its hands and saying" oh dear, how unfortunate".
I don't think anyone expected the Jews to actually beat the Arabs and keep on beating them.
