Christian = Republican?

I don't know for sure how it is in the rest of 'Murica, but I live in TEXAS, WHERE EVERYTHING'S BIGGER, INCLUDING OUR FUNDIES- THEY WEIGH 350 POUNDS AND HANDLE POISONOUS SNAKES. ARE YOU CLEAR?
Any kind of outspoken Christian pretty much equals Republican here, in my experience. In their defense, they're a pretty friendly bunch. Anecdote: my car broke down on Sunday morning at 10 AM right in front of a big ass church in small town, Texas. It was blocking several cars from leaving church services, and to boot, my car is covered with "fuck off, creationists" bumper stickers. These folks moved my car aside, offered me everything from cell phone use to fried chicken at their homes (Honey, you come home with me right NOW! We'll work that old car problem out over iced tea! ). Gracious people when a woman on her own is in trouble. There is much bad to be said about religion in Texas, but when your car breaks down in front of their church, they help. RE: Christian = Republican?

I'm not doubting that happened, what I have a problem with is the idea that the Founding Fathers specifically set aside money to have bibles printed to be distributed in our schools. It's simple history revisionism. Even if it weren't, the Supreme Court has upheld time and time again the wall of separation of church and state. We know that our country works better keeping religion and government separate. Let's face it, forcing kids to pray in school is one battle that fundamentalists have lost, and it's never going to happen again.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.
I do find it odd that Christians seem to cling to the Republican party. I don't think Jesus would have been in favor of Assault Weapons and cutting spending on programs that feed and shelter the poor. But modern Christian/Republicans seem to be nuts for such ideas.
I wonder if Jesus would have been a democrat? But modern Christian/Republicans seem to be nuts for such ideas.You'll have to read Plato's republic and get a feel for how Socrates felt about government to get a better idea. 500 years after Plato wrote about Socrates, the Jesus character was created to emulate him. Of course, Socrates would probably not find it agreeable that he was the basis of a character used to describe a man, who above all else, stood for the thing he despised most. Nobody pretended to more outrageous claims of unsustainable knowledge more than Jesus, and nobody makes more unsupportable declarations of wisdom than those made in the name of Christianity. If I could pay to see two literary characters have a discussion, it would be to see Socrates examine Jesus. I wonder what Socrates would have to say on faith. For in his day He was neither for Rome nor for the theocratic rule of the Jewish state. |
