What is there to discuss, really? "You don't believe in god and neither do I" does not make for good conversation.
Quote:I see precious little of that here. The threads regarding religion that I've sampled quickly degenerate into senseless name-calling and posts that reveal a staggering lack of scientific literacy and consideration for people with differing views.
You've joined at an unfortunate time, but this is forum life, things are constantly changing.
Quote:No one is forcing me to be here, and my stay may be brief. If what I've seen so far is what members here want to do, that's ok. I'm just curious if anyone here knows of a site where I might find what I'm looking for.
You might want to try AF.com, TTA or (Loki forbid) A+. Googling other forums should not be that hard
Good luck in your endeavor, and welcome back, if you ever feel like it.
TTA sound just the place for you, Z-one. It's what I refer to as a new-agey self-effacing atheist forum, where you are discouraged from being up-front with or confrontional with Christians.
The crystals, Christians, incense, and chakras devoted folk there are more Doubting Thomas agnostics than atheist. They are even immensely proud to have Christian moderators in this airy fairy land!
If I sound pissed off with TTA it is because - finally fill up to the gills with their kid glove treatment of Christians - I purposely got myself barred from there by telling one of their limp-wristed, lisping, mincing, Christianish moderators to get fucked.
So if you want Al-anon like caring and sharing, unconditional love, empathy and understanding between wymyn dominated metrosexuals, witnessing Christians and Chardonnay socialist atheist atheichrists TTA is the place for you.

TTA is really good, save for the ban happy admins. Other than that, yeah TTA is excellent!

How great and freethinking you must be to tell kingschosen to get fucked.
He has greater scriptural and worldly knowledge than you may ever hope to have, so I admonish you to go fuck yourself.

I was pointing out what seem like inconsistencies between the rules and many of the posts I've seen. If the forum is lightly moderated and its rules are often ignored, I can live with that. My expectation for the forum is simply that it is predominantly populated by atheists. I have no doubt that there are many fine people who are members here.
The emphasis in the rules here is precisely on keeping discussion interactive, the manner of expression is pretty wide open. Personally I like that because I think we are much more than rational machines. If you put too much filter on it you may lose something valuable.
As for your expectation that it be predominantly populated by atheists, you don't have any reason to worry. But if you want to discuss religion it is better to have a wide variety of viewpoints and an environment that is not hostile to theists. Here at least, when you vent inappropriately at theists because of your own baggage you don't have to worry about being thrown out as a lout because of any prissy rule.

And I've gotta hand it to you, The Stinking Theist, for your uncanny perception. It's amazing how much you know about me in one short week!
It wasn't Kingschosen (the egomaniacal name tells me all ! need to know about how he reads "'scripture"!) that barred me, it was one of his feminazi groupies.

I could have waited, felt things out, and established an identity here before making a post like that, but I figured I'd save myself some time. Googling for forums will get me a list of forums: I was more interested in hearing members' experience. If people have tried other forums and found this one more friendly and open to opposing views, that's good to know.
Why not join those other forums and start a confrontational thread asking why everyone there is a dick like you did here?
Or maybe in doing the above you would have been able to find a place where people were more to your liking without insulting an entire other forum.

Good job discerning between scripture and the real world, as having deep knowledge about scripture is every bit as useful in the real world as having deep knowledge about Star Wars.

The "kingschosen" The Stinking Theist refers to is a supercilious church hopping Southern Baptist, (spit!) who can't seem to find a church that can meet His, and His confidant and good buddy, God's, impossibly high directives and expectations. He continually finds fault in mere mortal church members and then imperiously moves on to yet another, and hopefully more biddable, Baptist Bigotorium. This psalm-singing Simon-pure hypocrite is a highly esteemed moderator at TTA.
While there I had the temerity to ask why a practising Christian (kingschosen) had the privilege of having his pietistic finger on the dump button over a group of supposed atheists. This simple question bought forth a snarling salvo of "why don't you fuck off" type comments from members and from kingschosen's fellow moderators.
After another couple of days it became quite apparent the mods had formed a covert cabal bent on driving me out of their apostate atheist cyber chapel. Once I fully realised this I told a another Christian loving moderator to go and get well and truly fucked, and here I am.

I'm a 4.5 year veteran, and I'm confused as all heck about this winter XD This forum is very lightly moderated, so far as forums go. Most (minor) rule breaches are ignored until it becomes a pattern, or it starts to become significant. This forum's population is predominantly atheist.
Anyway, been on other forums. I like our, ahh... 'sister site' (Atheistforums.com). I wasn't aware our site consisted primarily of very boring 'name-calling' But then, I have been semi-absent for a long while, and I haven't been here consistently in many months.

We've had christian moderators. We have a Muslim administrator. We have had many deists as mods/admins.

I wonder why scriptural knowledge would be useful in discussions about Christianity?
