When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Oh. Is this a Christian forum? I'm sorry...I must have gone to the wrong one. I'm looking for a forum where there are atheists.

Why the fuck would I care what some Fundamentalists (of any religion) cared about secular reform?

Yes, sure you can have religious folk care about secularism and progressive reform, but last time I checked, this isn't a religious forum and most people on this forum aren't religious.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

Facepalm

Let's try this again. Atheist "turning back their attention to secularism, more specifically humanism and progressiveness" is a statement that makes no sense, since not every atheist is a humanist, so there's nothing to "turn back to".

So why are you here?

OK. You who post on this forum needs to focus on promoting secularism in where you live (I use the word as it pertains to government instead of what you might be thinking of merely distancing oneself from religion; I come from a government background in terms of education, so I apologize if you thought my use of secularism was closer to its definition of being irreligious).

Sure in America, you will encounter opposition but to win, you just need to put the effort in instead of wasting time complaining about it amongst yourselves when things don't go your way or wasting time on someone who can't defend their own beliefs.

Because I like people to have academic knowledge and frankly, I've come to find vocal atheists to be lacking in that regard.

To be honest, I usually lean towards my secular upbringing when I look for answers in the Bible. Most of what I learned from the Bible came from atheists.

Aha, now we're talking! As a humanist, I still can't give 24h for altruistic causes, but the time spent here is not a waste, but a resource. For me it's a way to reach out in the world, compare ideas, get the occasional reality check and a way to relax when I need some respite from the physical world. As for promoting secularism, I am currently hatching an idea, but it's not ripe yet. Have a few kinks to work out.

See, I'm a green socialist. Our philosophy is to get feet on the ground more than to debate. We've gotten tired of sitting on the sidelines waiting for action to take place.

I think there needs to be a balance between debate and doing. By only taking action, one can easily lose oneself in the ideology and forget why the work was done in the first place. With debate and discussion you (hopefully) get new input, ideas and opinions. Because the hardest part about humanism is that every single human being can't be pleased at the same time. With the debate you can at least measure where you stand in relation to others.
