Chickenshit Republicunt in Arizona

Giving Texas a run for its money!

Quote:The proposal by Rep. David Farnsworth, R-Mesa, would declare in state law that the rights of property owners to raise poultry trumps the rights of the folks next door not to have them in the neighborhood. SB 1151 would specifically void any existing city ordinance to the contrary.
Quote:He isn't alone in his sentiment: 21 other legislators out of the 90 at the Capitol have signed on as cosponsors.
Farnsworth acknowledged that a next-door neighbor might not want a chicken pen right up against the fence, but he said that right to live in a chicken-free zone is limited.
“I've come to the conclusion that our own property rights on our property need to be supreme,” Farnsworth said.
Yep. Property rights means every one else has to smell chickenshit.

Are people living close enough to each other in Arizona that it's really that big a deal about chickens? I'd like more context, because otherwise I'm kind of on the side of the guy who wants to get into the poultry business.

I have been smelling a hog farm that is several miles away for years. I don't like it but the taste of bacon makes it worth it. I like eating chicken too so no big deal to me.

If it can be smelled for miles, then that would be a problem.

Yes. Also it hits about 110 degrees on a consistent basis from Late May to Late September. Think about it.

It rarely gets to the triple digits in alabama, and I've never had a strong sense of smell, so I can't really relate to this issue.

I have a lot of animals and they shit in the yard. It's natural. Maybe you can invent a chicken toilet.

Here's a random Google Maps shot of Glendale, AZ...where the football stadium is located for reference.
It's typical. Building lots are small because no one wants to be watering the desert. Builders are required to include parks in their designs for the developments.
Note the map scale in the corner. 50 ft. per inch.

Isn't the point of county ordinances to be voted on by citizens and their local government?

The houses are typically 7 feet apart in suburbs so you share a fence with someone. So, if your neighbors decide to use their backyard as dump, you'll smell it all the time. It's not like we live 10 miles away from each other in the middle of the desert. Phoenix, Peoria, Glendale, Mesa, Tempe, Gilbert, and Scottsdale are all huge suburbs.

Seeing this image gives me terrible anxiety. I have to go back there (Glendale) for a couple weeks next month to get a new visa so I can come back into China. It's going to be terrible going from an awesome giant city, to- to- THAT. Agh.
