Pinsir, I agree, he is not specified therein.
However, that event has always been looked at as the devil speaking thru the snake.
The devil has been using variations of "Hath God said?" ever since.
When God said to the snake that He would put enmity between the offspring of the woman and the snake, it smacks of being a prophecy that the Messiah would crush the head of Satan while Satan would strike His heel (the spike went thru Jesus' heel). The full crushing of the devil is ahead.

Then why did he punish the snake, aside from just being a jerk? Someone took the form of an animal and did something wrong, so the guy in charge punishes the whole species of animal. I guess this is just the first of multiple times where Yahweh punishes innocent people for the crimes of others. He likes to kill children for the sins of their parents as well.

Chad, thanks for the laugh, apparently the snake was the only one LOW enough to let the devil use his mouth.

I do try to be funny once in a while. I pick on this deity a lot, but I'm more or less certain that stories like Eden, and the Tower of Babel, and Noah's Ark weren't really literal. I mean some people do take them as literal history, but there are just too many holes in them. Even more nowadays that we know more about things than people did thousands of years ago.
I'd pick on Zeus and the other Olympians too if anyone wanted to talk about it. Apparently Hades, the god of the dead, was one of the better ones, aside from that Persephone tale. Even then there's debate over the exact details of it. The only real difference between Yahweh and other gods is that nobody claims the Olympians and such were perfect. I would actually cut Yahweh more slack if in the new testament he made some apologies, said he was trying to mend his ways, and genuinely wanted to help people and make them happy.
