It doesn't make me into a good person. It gives me the potential to be a good person where you don't have that potential, without being able to justify rationally a just universe.

As long as you believe that, you will never be able to live peacefully with your fellow man or yourself.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite. Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment. Quote:Some people deserve hell. I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong. But again, good is defined by God, so actually your faith also gives you the potential to be a very bad person (if you pick and choose the wrong verses to follow, the wrong interpretation, have the wrong God, etc... of course, you obviously don't ). Why complicate things with this "faith gives me the potential..." nonsense? Why not direct your thinking mind to actual justification for being good rather than being good because of faith in X? Here's a justification: I like being good to people because I like when they are good to me. Whoa! That was difficult!

My mind is directly engaged with being good, because maximum good = God.
You can't make that direct link because your understanding of God is completely different to mine. And your understanding of good is severely curtailed by human failings. I'm certainly not saying that I'm better than you. I'm just showing you how this works. Of course I can't make your superficial direct link because the maximum good under your definition is entirely arbitrary. I can, however, make the direct link between maximum goodness and corresponding states of mind that result in happier, more productive, more free individuals and societies.

Then you get religion. Kudos.
My definition is far from arbitrary though. RE: Christians, prove your minds aren't molested by fear.

Your definition of goodness differs from suicide bombers only in that God has apparently revealed himself to you in a different holy book.
