Christians, prove your minds aren't molested by fear.

You had sex with someone outside your marriage. Would you not feel that unless you repent before you go to judgement, then you're going to go to hell?

I would think I'd put myself in hell in the moment, if indeed I was convinced that my action was harmful.

My eternal condemnation would have zero bearing. How would I know how my whole life would be judged?

I'd say great, show me your evidence or you don't get to go around actively lying to children and striking fear in them, to the point that they grow up and embrace death as if it's an elevator to your religion's fairy tale kingdoms ("up or down, sir?" - that asshole St. Peter).

I believe you have completely missed the point. Well done. I give you a barn, I set it right before you, and...

Look at the mess you've made. All that chaos. I didn't even know we HAD those horses.

Seriously, though... even if <any given answer> IS a lie: it is STILL 'an answer'.

This extends well beyond religion. Screw your head back in.

Atheists, are you superstitious?
Some people believe that when you take a photograph of someone a little bit of their soul goes into your picture. Obviously not us. We know that a picture is just a picture.

So to prove it, I want you to find a picture of a loved one, preferably your child if you have one, if not any close and beloved family member will do.

Then I want you to stab the picture in the eyes and face repeatedly with a knife whilst repeating "I hope you get cancer and die in lingering terror and agony in a puddle of your own excrement". Obviously the picture is just a picture and since you don't ACTUALLY hope they get cancer and die, that doesn't matter. Then I'll believe you're not superstitious Big Grin

Oooooor, you could say "stick it up your arse Jacob, i don't have to prove shit to you, and I'm not going to say something which I don't believe just in order to prove a point with you."

And out of interest, whilst I sincerely hope nobody is dumb enough to do the photo thing, how does imagining yourself doing it make you feel?
I don't really have an objection to that. Actually, I used to wish that my biological father would die a slow and painful death every night, and pray to every god I ever heard of for the same, and try to negotiate it with the tooth fairy and Santa Claus. Granted, I didn't actually believe in any of those things. Then when I was 6 he actually got cancer, and when I was 8, he finally died. Did I think I caused his death? Not really, since he drank and smoked heavily for years starting in college.

Also, I've stepped on several cracks. So far my mother's back has not broken, though a few of her vertebrae are fused and it is very painful.

So I guess I'm not very superstitious.

Clap Bravo, you've established that an answer is an answer. Brilliant.

But is it a good answer? An answer we should tolerate people forcing onto us or on the next generation of human beings? I don't think so. Everyone has a right to believe what they want. But they don't have a right to spread fear and hate to kids who don't know any better.

Suck it up and go it alone. Reminds me of a scene somewhere of a pack of chimps approaching a dead leopard, eventually more and more of the group smack the dead leopard.

Since not everyone feels that God was ever a fearsome predator, not everyone has any fear to get out of their system. Then too not everyone agrees that God is dead.

That you'd be willing to stab a photo of a loved one just shows you have some capacity as a sociopath. Of course we all do, but we're not all cool with that.

I don't have any desire to invent and pass little tests of courage to prove that there is no godly leopard in the dark waiting to strike us down for it. Once we feel autonomous enough, the question of interest isn't what wouldn't you do but rather what's worth doing?

Wow. Just wow. Yeah, stabbing a photograph makes one a sociopath. Or maybe an actor. I dunno, I guess it's hard to tell in a black and white world. And yeah, I would stab a picture if someone actually believed part of a person's soul resided in it. Watching their facial expression alone would be worth the amusement.

The one about proving that spirits don't live in photographs? Simple.
Cause I don't have any photos of a family member around.

I guess this thread is a pile of croc! Oh my, I'm such a halfwit. Hee hee. But I'm still going to walk on the gold pavement hands locked with good old Jesus, that silly mutt, right? Cause that's all that really matters to me anyhow.ROFLOL

I cannot teach you anything or assist you in any way. I'm afraid you'll have to fall on your face first. Undecided

Are you unaware of the fallibility of humans?

I could really go philosophically nuts over that... but none of this matters, and none of this pertains to my contention.

Trying to manipulate other people to do your bidding is what I find issue with. If you're going to do it: have the damn class to do it well enough that they don't know they follow your will.

It read as juvenile bullying. It was elementary-quality manipulation, end of.
