You had sex with someone outside your marriage. Would you not feel that unless you repent before you go to judgement, then you're going to go to hell?

I would think I'd put myself in hell in the moment, if indeed I was convinced that my action was harmful.

My eternal condemnation would have zero bearing. How would I know how my whole life would be judged?

Some people believe that when you take a photograph of someone a little bit of their soul goes into your picture. Obviously not us. We know that a picture is just a picture.

So to prove it, I want you to find a picture of a loved one, preferably your child if you have one, if not any close and beloved family member will do.

Then I want you to stab the picture in the eyes and face repeatedly with a knife whilst repeating "I hope you get cancer and die in lingering terror and agony in a puddle of your own excrement". Obviously the picture is just a picture and since you don't ACTUALLY hope they get cancer and die, that doesn't matter. Then I'll believe you're not superstitious

I don't really have an objection to that. Actually, I used to wish that my biological father would die a slow and painful death every night, and pray to every god I ever heard of for the same, and try to negotiate it with the tooth fairy and Santa Claus. Granted, I didn't actually believe in any of those things. Then when I was 6 he actually got cancer, and when I was 8, he finally died. Did I think I caused his death? Not really, since he drank and smoked heavily for years starting in college.

Also, I've stepped on several cracks. So far my mother's back has not broken, though a few of her vertebrae are fused and it is very painful.

So I guess I'm not very superstitious.

But is it a good answer? An answer we should tolerate people forcing onto us or on the next generation of human beings? I don't think so. Everyone has a right to believe what they want. But they don't have a right to spread fear and hate to kids who don't know any better.

Maybe those who need to symbolically strike out at God to convince themselves He is really dead should do so without enlisting the support of the whole tribe. Suck it up and go it alone. Since not everyone feels that God was ever a fearsome predator, not everyone has any fear to get out of their system. Then too not everyone agrees that God is dead.

I don't have any desire to invent and pass little tests of courage to prove that there is no godly leopard in the dark waiting to strike us down for it. Once we feel autonomous enough, the question of interest isn't what wouldn't you do but rather what's worth doing?
