My Thoughts On Islam

RE: My Thoughts On Islam
These are all the english translations of the quran.

The verse which you says proves the universe is still expanding.

So pretend were back before the time people discovered the universe is expanding and you were presented with this verse.

Quote:Sahih International
And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.
Muhsin Khan
With power did We construct the heaven. Verily, We are Able to extend the vastness of space thereof.
Pickthall
We have built the heaven with might, and We it is Who make the vast extent (thereof).
Yusuf Ali
With power and skill did We construct the Firmament: for it is We Who create the vastness of pace.
Shakir
And the heaven, We raised it high with power, and most surely We are the makers of things ample.
Dr. Ghali
And the heaven (is also a sign). We have built it with (Our) Hands (i.e., Capability) and surely We are indeed extending (it) wide.

Now the ones in bold don't even mention the word expanding, the other verses mention expanding but don't necessarily say it is still expanding.

2 out of the 6 translations do vaguely mention expanding.

So you can see how your translation differentiates quite a bit from these translations when you're trying to prove the quran predicted the universe is expanding.
Can you see how that looks a bit suspicious?

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Quran was not revealed to Prophet in a Book format. It was recited to him.It was also not revealed all at once.It was revealed in a period of about 23 years in the Islamic month of Ramadan.

Quran was written down, though. If all written copies of Quran disappeared along with every other holy scripture, how would it be brought back? Are you saying there are people who know it by heart so they could write it down again or it would be recited to someone again?

What happened to the very first manuscript where it was written down? I've been googling for the earliest manuscript in existence and found this - Sana'a manuscript

Quote:The Sana'a palimpsest is one of the oldest Qur'anic manuscripts in existence.[1] It was found, along with many other Qur'anic and non-Qur'anic fragments, in Yemen in 1972 during restoration of the Great Mosque of Sana'a. The manuscript is written on parchment, and comprises two layers of text (see palimpsest). The upper text conforms to the standard 'Uthmanic Qur'an, whereas the lower text contains many variants to the standard text. An edition of the lower text was published in 2012.[1] A radiocarbon analysis has dated the parchment containing the lower text to before 671 AD with a 99% accuracy

Palimpsest

Quote:A palimpsest /ˈpælɪmpsɛst/ is a manuscript page from a scroll or book from which the text has been scraped or washed off so that it can be used again.

It's all a bit of a mystery, though, as the Media Controversy indicates.

I've been trying to find out more but, so far, haven't come across anything really informative.

RE: My Thoughts On Islam
Quote:3. Sun’s Orbit

In 1512 the astronomer Nicholas Copernicus put forward his theory that the Sun is motionless at the centre of the solar system, and that the planets revolve around it. The belief that the Sun is stationary was widespread amongst astronomers until the 20th century. It is now a well-established scientific fact that the Sun is not stationary, but is moving in an orbit around the centre of our Milky Way galaxy.

The Quran mentions the orbit of the Sun:

It is He who created night and day, the Sun and the Moon, each floating in its orbit. [21:33]

What did people believe before heliocentrism and would that also fit in with this verse?

RE: My Thoughts On Islam
I watched a pretty good documentary on the Origins of Islam last night. Not by Robert Spencer but reaches pretty much the same conclusion: Islam was concocted 70-80 years after the so called "mohammed" and for the same purpose as xtianity in Rome. UNification of an empire of disparate peoples.

So...no cave. No angels reciting silly poetry. No 9 year old girls to fuck. No heroic conquest of Arabia. Just later bullshit.

And found in it are many contradictions.

Only if the theists are willing to remove their rose-colored glasses and stop their unhealthy reliance upon cognitive dissonance will they understand the contradictions, though.

Thanks, but regardless of whether I'm ignorant, it doesn't change the fact that the Quran is indeed just a plagiarism of the holy books that it lifted the stories from.

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this. Take a seat if you want, have a shot of vodka.

1400 years ago who could tell the resemblance of Leech like structure with that of Congealed clot ???

All other holy scriptures have scientific inaccuracies like Bible etc

Also please note Quran is not a book of science. It is a Book of signs.

It also makes amazing liner for the floor when I'm doing some painting.

Truth is, your 'book of signs' reveals to you only what you already know.

It's a self fulfilling prophecy when you have the answer already and then try to look for the same answer in a text full of vagaries and nye on worthless word salads.

If the Quran was really worth anything, it would give you a 'sign' of advancements and technologies that haven't been discovered yet, and not just stuff that happens to have been discovered in your lifetime.

Funny how that works eh? Almost seems like some sort of confirmation bias.

RE: My Thoughts On Islam

  1. Mountains do not have roots or stakes. They are a folding of earth's crust and are therefore quite shallow.

Quote:A book entitled Earth is a basic reference textbook in many universities around the world. One of its two authors is Geophysicist Professor Emeritus Frank Press. He was the Science Advisor to former US President Jimmy Carter, and for 12 years was the President of the National Academy of Sciences, Washington, DC. His book says that mountains have underlying roots.
Another book entitled "How do Mountains form" by Terry A.Hicks also states that mountains have deep roots.

    Statements from Various Geologists :-

    1) Tarbuck and Lutgens write:
The existence of these roots has been confirmed by seismic and gravitational data

    2) Brian J.Skimmer and Stephen C.Porter write:

The crust beneath the mountains resembles icebergs with high peaks, but with massive roots below the waterline. The accuracy of this analogy is demonstrated by the gravity profile across the United States, shown in Figure 16.18c. Negative gravity anomalies are observed where the crust is thickest. The anomalies are caused by the roots of low-density rock beneath the mountains.

... Mountains stand high and have roots beneath them because they are comprised of low-density rocks and are supported by the buoyancy of weak, easily deformed but more dense rocks below.

    3) Under the sub-chapter 13.2 “How do we know mountains have roots?” academic geologists Gary Smith and Aurora Pun write:

“Airy’s hypothesis predicts that the base of the crust is deepest beneath areas of highest elevation; in other words, mountains should have roots in the mantle…Seismic data demonstrate the presence of thick roots of crust projecting downward into the mantle beneath mountains as predicted by Airy’s model. “

  2. The 'it' refers to power of understanding, not the universe.

Quote: I will mention another verse to clear your silly argument.

And it is We Who have constructed the heaven with might, and verily, it is We Who are steadily expanding it. (Qur'an, 51:47)

  3. The orbit of the sun was around the Earth - they were geocentrists.

Quote:The planets in our solar system orbit around the sun. One orbit of the Earth takes one year. Meanwhile, our entire solar system orbits the center of the Milky Way galaxy. Our sun and solar system move at about 800 thousand kilometers an hour – that’s about 500 thousand miles an hour – in this huge orbit. So in 90 seconds, for example, we all move some 20,000 kilometers – or 12,500 miles – in orbit around the galaxy’s center.

The verse mentions ...the Sun and the Moon, each floating in its orbit.

Where is the fault in the verse ??

  4. That does not say anything about pain receptors; it is obvious that if the skin has burned away, it would have to be replaced to burn away again.

Quote:Read the line again in the verse "......We shall replace them with new ones so that they may continue to feel the pain..."
  5. Clot of blood does not describe an embryo.
    Quote:Huh...

Clot of congealed blood resembles like a leech,That is in the initial stages of the embryo.
The description what Quran gave about it was accurate,When Dr keith Moore checked it under a powerful microscope he has verified it.

Also there are several other verses in the Quran related to Human development.

Stakes:
The book by Hicks is a children's book.

The fact that the weight of the elevated rock causes the depression of the underlying mantle does not relate to your Koran quote. It says "the mountains as stakes".

Orbits:
The authors were geocentrists. You argument fails.

Skin:
Again, there is no reference to pain receptors.

Embryos:
Resembles? Your argument is silly.
