People, as far as I'm concerned, put too much emphasis on skin colour.

Because it's one of our most obvious features, and therefore it's the easiest way for our minds to quickly determine where you fit into whatever preconceived notions we have about people. Hair and eye color are a close/distant second, respectively. The sound of your voice and any accents or affections probably follow. And so on.

We are wired to make such judgments about people and it takes some work to overcome them. I'm fortunate because my mother is what I guess you could call "virulently anti-racist." She absolutely would not abide any sort of racist talk or terms and seethed whenever anyone around us did so. But that doesn't mean that on some level, I don't "prefer" people who resemble me in any number of ways over those who do not. It just makes it a bit easier to work to overcome that mental block.

As far as I know slavery predates written history and has existed everywhere in the world people have existed.

Slavery isn't just a thing that some white guys did while a few evil Africans helped them out. It's pretty much a part of every ancient civilizations history.

Also I'm pretty sure there's a statistic I've read somewhere that there's more slavery today than there was during the height of the slave trade, and the majority of that slavery is in central african or middle eastern countries where white people are very much in the minority.

The thing is, there wouldn't have been a need for "leftism" political correctness if there hadn't been such harsh and cruel discrimination against certain groups, throughout American history.

Relating to the economy ...Capitalism has mainly benefitted white heterosexual men who make up the majority of CEOs in the US (still), so again...that's why we are seeing this economic shift into Socialism. I think Socialism is not a bad ideal but it isn't the left's fault that white heterosexual men discriminated against African Americans, homosexuals and women for decades. It still goes on albeit there are laws in place to protect these groups.

It's a shame we can't come up with a hybrid of socialism and capitalism. (I thought Germany has something like this in place, but being predominantly capitalist) The best fruits of both. The two sort of contradict one another, though. lol

We actually have something along those lines, a capitalist system with government-led regulation. No system is perfect, and the USA suffers from too much influence wielded by the very people and companies affected by the regulation. We have the tools, we just don't use them as well as we could.
