Mind = Brain?

Mind = Brain?
Do you think Mind = Brain, or do you believe in mind separate from brain in some way?

Me, Well everyone who knows me here should be able to guess, for all else I'm on the Mind = Brain bandwagon because i see no function of the mind that cannot be explained by the brain.

I'd agree with the statement "The mind is in the brain" or "The mind is a product of the brain", but technically speaking, the brain does more than what the "mind" is defined as. Can't we change the poll question to deal with that?

It is true that Brain > Mind, but i assumed the question was clear.

Can you change it to "Do you believe the mind is contained entirely within the brain?"

I believe the mind is contained entirely within the brain yeah. It's something the brain produces.. thought. Is the mind part of the physical mass that is the brain?... no. The brain is just the machine... the mind is a reservoir of thoughts which go to make up a 'personality'.

So what of your spiritual resurrection then? Surely you must believe in some separation, either dimensionally or otherwise.

So the soul is mindless? If that is the case then the 'you' who i am talking to now is not who is going to heaven. You said earlier that the mind is your thoughts and personality - the things that make you who you are. The notion Mind ≠ Soul implies that God does not take your mind to heaven, just a piece of you that is totally unrelated to your hopes and dreams and ideas, totally unrelated to the piece of you that made the moral choices that got your soul to heaven in the first place.

That Mind ≠ Soul does not state that they are unrelated. So FAIL again Wink

Lol true, i concede that one - but this does negate your earlier statement that the mind is contained entirely within the brain.

I think the mind is a product of the brain, so essentially equal, but like Adrian pointed out, there's much we do that our mind is not aware of. I think in general the mind is the brain experience itself.

I definitely do not believe in dualism or souls. However despite that fact, I still enjoy using a metaphorical use of the world soul.
