That won't stop the Democrats from utterly caving to his every whim though.

The Dems need 60 votes to stop a filibuster. Lieberman is an "independent" that caucuses with the Dems for that 60 vote. So yeah, he can filibuster. There are no Republicans supporting the medicare buy in at all.

This whole thing makes me sick. 1 fucking prick with his insurance payoffs can make millions of people suffer. I hope CT finally comes to it senses and kicks him the fuck out of the senate when he comes up for re-election.

Olbermann nailed it in the Special Comment last night. Rightfully tore into both sides of the debate, and called out the bill for what it is. How can they honestly stand behind this and call it reform? I think a lot of people would defy the mandate if it went through as-is. Not necessarily by choice, either.

Bernie Sanders introduced a single-payer amendment to the Senate bill the other day, and the GOP used it to delay progress and forced a reading of the bill (all 700+ pages). Bernie Sanders' resulting tirade (and retraction of the amendment) sums up how I feel about this whole mess. It's deeply saddening that this whole effort has been turned on it's head and demonized, while there are millions of people who need help. All to protect fucking insurance companies and their billions of dollars in profits.

SINGLE FUCKING PAYER! ARRRGGGG.
