Hasn't this adage been disproved? When the water gets hot, the frog still jumps out.

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm stuck here for 8 hours a day and get bored frequently. I don't have a choice about exercising. I stay off the forums when I'm at the gym, which is every evening I can manage it.

Yes, and in fact I'm considering exactly how to go about it at the moment.
Please don't. Don't try to counsel people you hold in contempt.

When it BOILS, he jumps out. hehe Don't change the adage! jk
As an aside, I enjoy crossfit and running and I think if you find something you enjoy, it will become a regular thing instead of a drudgery. Health and fitness needs to become a lifestyle. I think our culture presents too many trendy diets and such, and that sends a subtle message that the path is temporary. Nope, it has to become a lifestyle, like showering and brushing one's teeth.

I'm sorry to say that without constant exercise, it is extremely easy for me to pack on weight. The same is true of my boyfriend, who maintains his weight but does not lose any despite his constant activity at work. If you are a naturally thin person, you are not going to gain weight as fast as someone who doesn't share your metabolic rate, and a slower metabolism is going to take longer to lose weight without extra work. That's a myth. Larger people have a faster metabolism.
Here's a graph of BMR to age:
And here it to weight for men:
And women:
Can you tell me: 1. do you know what your individual BMR is? 2. do you know exactly how much energy you consume per week?

I don't, and I shoot between 1200-1500 calorie intake per day.
Also, please, go ahead and explain to me why my best friend has to gobble down food to maintain his weight (he never goes to the gym), whereas I have to starve myself in order to maintain mine. If it's so easy to lose weight, I'd be his size by now.

Depending on how active I am I require much more calories than when I'm less active - I'd be very surprised if my BMR isn't within the normal range. I don't know what you mean by "naturally thin" - I know how easy it is to gain weight, but I also know how easy it is to lose it. I tend to eat a lot all the time, but when I want to lose kilos I eat lower calories foods. If you're sure that you eat 1200-1500 calories per day then you may have a slower BMR then average. But you can exercise - at home without equipment - and burn 500-600 calories in an hour or less (alternatively 90 minutes of gardening or a 90 minute brisk walk with the dog will also burn 500 calories). I never go to the gym I just exercise at home (although I do have weights and a bench-press).

I've read before something like a calorie is the amount of energy to increase the temperature of some unit of water by 1 degree or something.
Not really sure.
I have no idea how many calories is in anything I consume. Unless I casually glance at a label while I'm eating or drinking something. It never really registers with me. It might as well be in a foreign language. I'm still slender after 40 years. My annual checkups still rave about my cholesterol levels and lipids, and BMI, and whatever.
But I haven't done jack to deserve it. I just keep being a generally uninterested slob that eats and drinks whatever he wants. I'm sure this will change eventually as I get older (has to happen sometime soon) but for now I'm just taking the easy route and not suffering any obvious signs from my neglect.
Everything I needed to know about life I learned on Dagobah.
