The story of Noah is about the nature of the Christian god and the nature of the people he created. It's about sin, punishment, and fear/respect of god. This story has also been used by creationists in scientific discussions. It's also a standard story for children's Bible Study and a lesson about not to pissing off god and that it's okay when when the Christian god kills people. Saying that the story of Noah doesn't have an impact on the Christian community is disingenuous, I think.
I'd say it's a tad more than "disingenuous"
Don't get me wrong Bittersmart, you're obviously spot-on. Though I think it far more fitting to call Drich what he is ... a filthy apologist who will attempt anything he can to make his lies seem somehow plausible.
What's more, the very reason Christians are boycotting the movie is BECAUSE it doesn't follow close enough to their CHRISTIAN standard.
Newsflash Drich: People don't get offended in their beliefs over things that aren't a demonstrable part of their belief structure.
The Lord God Yahweh yet again Being a REAL FUCKING ASSHOLE:
Genesis 6:6-7
6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”
Damn Drich, even for you this such an EPIC FAIL

If we just go by the Biblical "view" of this almighty, omnipotent "Creator," it would seem he is a bigoted, ignorant racist asshole with an extraordinarily low IQ. This is how the "prophets" described him, at any rate. He asked for Abraham to kill his son? He asked for Noah to build an ark? He talks to grown men in riddles advising them to follow rules that a 5 year old could figure out?
Does this honestly sound like a "deity" worth "worshipping?"
If a god exists, damn I hope he isn't the Abrahamic "version."
Funny how people can interpret the same stories so differently.

I'm glad you finally admit that it's a story. If it's so up for interpretation, then why take any version literally at all?

How does one interpret in an edifying way, God asking Abraham to kill his son? Going with the story, how does accepting this glorify God?
Even when I followed Christianity, I didn't find these passages worthy of my knowledge. Why am I reading this, I would think. Why is God vengeful and testing his own creation?
When I ended up with more questions than answers, I knew faith wasn't enough for me.
No amount of faith will ever be enough to ignore the atrocities of the bible done to "glorify god."

It is a story. There's true stories and there's untrue stories. I don't refuse to believe in something because I believe the main character is a monster. I think Putin is butthead, but I still believe he exists. By the way, scientists told me there were nine planets in the solar system and now they tell me there's only eight. Why can't they be consistent? I can't accept science anymore because they're always changing their minds. Scientists have been wrong more times that I can count. Next thing you know they'll tell me that bloodletting treatments can be harmful.

He can do anything he wants, indeed. And yet, his solution to this particular problem was "kill almost all the humans and almost all the animals". Given his lack of limitations, the only two logical explanations are that God's intelligence is far smaller than his capabilities, or that he knows exactly what he is doing and he just wants a lot of living things to die, and the punishment angle is just an excuse. God really just wants to kill a lot of things, but he also wants people to think that it isn't just capricious malice at work. So he blames them for it.
The Ark story is a prime example of why you don't want bloodthirsty idiots in charge of important things. Honesty, the best argument against the Abrahamic god is that a being whose only solution is to kill everything is a being who is too crazy and/or stupid to have created anything.

I'll stir the pot even farther and suggest that IF the Noah's ark story were true, it would be the duty of every rational and moral human being to oppose such a tyrant as the biblical god. In other words, atheists, keep doing what you do.

I'm just not ready yet to call 1,500 years of written testimony a made-up story because scientists tell me some of the stuff couldn't happen or because somebody thinks God was a bad guy.
