Their days are numbered. Thank God.

Absurd. Conspicuous consumption is our national goal.

Besides, what about those of us who don't give a shit about jesus or the truly asinine things that the gospel writers put in his mouth?

I don't think the majority of thinking individuals agree with that as a goal (even though I agree it does appear to be the only goal) and search elswhere in culture. Whether the majority of voters on the other hand.. this is developing into less religion more politics, I'll take my bow.

Dang, I got here after too many responses, school has blocked my fav. proxy. Any more suggestions?

Anyway, religion already had its chance in government, called the dark ages... If we allowed religion again in gov't, wouldn't it be a New Dark Ages? (Lol, bad religion's song)

It's hard to get quite a few members of my family to realize that. ;\\

Secularism is the only answer because secularism doesn't place any religious belief (or lack thereof) above any other. In a true secular democracy, you would have Christian politicians, Hindu politicians, Muslim politicians, Wiccan politicians, Scientologist politicians, and atheist politicians. People have a right to believe what they want, and that shouldn't affect their eligibility to run for public office.

To run for: yes. To be elected: no. If you believe that we are under attack by fairies... and are being elected into a position of power where you can act upon that belief: I say it should very much affect your eligibility.

People have a right to believe what they wish to... but electing someone stupid (insane, whatever) enough to believe in fairies is just plain stupid... and should most certainly affect wether they get elected or not.

Only if people think that person would combine their religious beliefs with their political.

As long as the people think the decision is justified... but separate the damn religion from the government! Including Jesus... lol
